I'm sure everyone's been afraid of doing this at least once...

Don't you wish Ghost was a little more descriptive of the "source" and "destination" drives? I sure do.

A client's hard drive was failing (according to SMART), so I brought in another drive and a copy of Ghost 2003. Connected the drive and ran the clone....oops, wrong drive. :eekers:

What's the best tool to recover his (incredibly valuable and not backed-up) data?

In case anyone was keeping up, OnTrack's latest pricing is $100 for inspection and $700-$2300 for repair.

The partition delete wan't such a big deal, and the bad sectors was making life difficult, but now it's making odd noises and unmounting itself....time to send it off to the pros.

Price as tested:

Ontrack evaluation showed electro/mechanical failure.

Disk inspection: $100
Data Recovery: $1600
160GB External Drive: $300
Insured Shipping: $200

Total: $2200

Giving an "I told you so" lecture to a PITA client: Priceless
