XP BSOD during install

I was setting up a new box using an Intel D945xxx motherboard. Right after the file copy the install says "Starting Windows". This is where I got the BSOD. Multiple restarts and trying different CDs resulted in the same BSOD.
Turns out that I needed to slipstream SP2 into XP and then the install went fine.
I guess an operating system that is 5 years old is ancient in computer time.

I had this happen with a number of video cards. Putting something else in during the install, then swapping after the updates worked fine.

Why aren't you using slipstreamed install CDs in the first place?

The computer is being installed to monitor/administer a PLC. It is not on the internet. It is not on a network. It just needs a basic XP install to run the PLC interface software.
Guess I'm going to have to start using a slipped stream XP install though.

So I am guessing that these aren't legit installs then or do you have a bunch of old stock?

Neither are necessary for the PLC boxes. After the XP install, I run the CD that came with the motherboard. It adds the chipset inf files, video and NIC drivers. Then I'm done. The technician connects it to the PLC and installs the interface software.
All the installs are legit. We have a volume license. The disk I use is a copy of the original XP CD we recieved. (originals are in a fire proof, locked cabinet). I just never bothered to make a copy of the latest disk. Guess I better get off my sorry ass and make a copy of the new XP CD...duh
