Like Hitachi did before with their 7K1000.D drive, Seagate will put 1TB-platters in their 7200rpm drives, but unlike Hitachi, they won't limit the capacity to 1TB. Up to 3TB for now, with 4TB planned soon. Drives will be available in two weeks.
However, they will cut the warranty of their drives to two years instead of three. They say it's a business decision and that their return rate is less than 1%, but anyone in the retail business knows their drives are much worse than that and the high cost of their numerous RMAs is probably behind that move.
