nVidia Quadro cards date back to 1999? (The first Quadro card was based on the original GeForce256 GPU).

And before that were the VPro cards used in SGI IRIX based workstations....

I was assigned the Quattro vehicle prior to 1999, but only received a PCIe QUADRO graphics card in 2017.
I don't recall discussing any of the cars I had to drive when I was stationed in Europe.

There are some preliminary benchmarks being posted on the 2080 series.

I copied this from a user on Reddit who made the chart comparing with the 1080/1080Ti.

https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/c...rce_rtx_2080_ti_and_rtx_2080_official/e5zeypd
Did the calculation for y'all. You're welcome :) all in 4K SDR. No HDR included

On average across 14 benchmarks:
2080 Ti is 45% faster vs 1080 Ti
2080 is 15% faster vs 1080 Ti
2080 Ti is 84% faster vs 1080
2080 is 46% faster vs 1080

That's nothing to sneeze at considering none of those games/benchmarks are utilizing new feature of the 2080 cards. Still, the price of entry is quite stiff.

I'm with you on the price. I'd like to upgrade but waiting for all the regular reviews and maybe some post-reference designed boards.

Seems like the short of the recent reviews I've read are saying:

2080Ti=30% performance improvement at 70% more expensive
2080=1080Ti
Their recommendation is don't buy. Kind of disappointing given the cost especially when compared to prior releases of their GPUs over the years.

Do you have the conventional HSF for the 1080Ti or was this one of the special ones shipped directly with a water block on it?

My presumption was that he bought the ones with the waterblock already on it thereby eliminating the possibility to air cool it with minimal effort. Hence my reply.

Yup. Shipped directly with the waterblock. But I might have one with a reference cooler soon enough. If they are as good as it looks I'll get another.

Well, SD gets first dibs if he's interested in the one with the reference cooler but if not I might be interested.

New rig is built, spec is in my sig under "Work1" now. Currently scores as the 46th fastest machine globally in the superposition benchmark, and in the top 2% for 3dMark. It is damn fast.

From what I can tell, everyone above me is LN2 or other crazy things. I'm still above ambient as it is my daily. I've considered sub-zero for a daily, but there are complications. Now that I do a fair amount of these builds, and my clients want more, I might just do it.

Looks like it's time to get yourself a Titan RTX...

Rumors are that Nvidia is going to release Super versions of their RTX lineup with the exception of the 2080Ti ahead of AMD dropping Navi.

https://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce...2080-super-699-2070-super-499-2060-super-399/
They dropped earlier in the week. It looks like they have roughly the performance of the prior card one notch up. IE: The 2070 Super at $499 has the same performance the standard 2080 had at $699. Benchmarks of the 2080 Super aren't out yet.

Surprise! nVidia has been making better GPUs all along, and AMD was going to sell Navi at lower prices anyway!

Seems like nVidia was sandbagging buyers with crappy price/performance, and AMD was sandbagging nVidia with crappy pricing.
