Lots of other people/site refer to DxOMark as some type of reference. Too bad the web site itself sucks ass, at least on Firefox. Perhaps some firefox plugin is the problem. It's a lot better with IE 11. How about http://www.photozone.de/ Seems to have decent reviews. Seems some of the...

Sensible advice of course. My purchases will be spread out a bit and I'll add lenses, filters, accessories, etc as I progress. I may initially go "top-heavy" with a premium body, but the ratio will work itself out after the accessories and another lens or two are purchased.

Nvidia's Titan X is coming soon.

I agree that SLI is a lot easier to setup now-a-days and even I could figure it out, but it's just not something I really need, at least until I get a 4k monitor. I just don't game enough to justify any purchase of that magnitude. I was just getting caught up in the excitement. I should...

Absolutely no reason to feel inadequate as far as your computer, their specs or the total amount of storage you have. Most everybody here is 15 to 40+ years older than you so we have a bit of a head start. When I was your age storage was $25-$40 dollars/megabyte. The cost per byte for HDD...

That would be smart. But I would still need a "that was dumb" purchase. I never messed around with SLI and have no desire to do start.

I'm pretty sure you didn't, but don't take my lack of interest in alcohol as in any way disparaging those that do. In fact I probably missed out on some possibly positive social opportunities because I don't drink. And I must say, if you do drink, take to opportunity to enjoy the finer options...

As much as you want to get the latest and greatest, waiting right now might be the best bet unless you can 100% confirm all the specs meet your needs. The first run of sets might not "completely" meet all the specs, "completely."

The "full 18 gbps HDMI 2.0 port" WILL allow 4:4:4 is different that MUST allow. "Here's Vizio support's statement on their new P-Series 4k TVs: Our current lineup of P series TVs do not support 4:4:4 Chroma at 60Hz in the 4k 60hz resolution. 4:4:4 Chroma @ 60Hz can be done in 1080p, 1080i...

Your link compares the 135/2 AF lens to the Zeiss, not the old 135/2.8 manual focus lens in the video. They are probably similar in quality. But yeah that Zeiss lens kicks some serious ass and you have to stop the Nikon down to f5.6 before the Zeiss no longer embarrasses the Nikon.

/wall-o-text warning. For my income level and unknown future level of interest in photography I __"should"__ start @ $1500 (DX + Kit lens), but I've set my initial purchase @ $2500 (D610 + 20mm f1.8). Although __realistically__ who am I kidding, I'll probably blow $4000+ to start (D810 +...

I moved this over to the DSLR thread instead of keeping it going in the Avast thread. I kinda hope the Canon 11-24 tests poorly and is definitely not worth buying because I'll never be able to justify purchasing it. I "should" just buy the Nikon 20mm f1.8 instead of the Nikon 14-24mm f2.8...

Nvidia's Titan X is coming soon.

Been hearing some "rumors"/forum chit-chat that the Titan X might only be $1000 after all because the DP performance has been reduced vs original Titan/Titan Black. Probably to keep people buying even more expensive high-end workstation Quadro cards instead of Titans. Then again the original...

Me neither. At least not yet. I'm sure Lunar will explain the technical reasons. Am I misunderstanding how modern SLRs work as far as what the mirror does during high frame rate shots? Does the mirror lock-up at 12 fps or does it actually go up and back down between shots? The last SLR...

    dSLR thread

Right. Obviously the mirror needs to swing up and out of the way first. I should have mentioned that. But I was thinking, once the mirror is up, why can't the camera just grab the image off the sensor? If you have a 1Dx or D4s and shooting at 11 or 12 fps the mirror locks up anyways. So why...

Shutter in modern DSLRs? Modern SLRs can shoot video at up to 60 fps. The shutter doesn't open and close 60 times/second, the images are just captured off the sensor 60 times/second. So question? Why do we need a shutter in a modern DSLR? Can't the image processor just "grab" a pic after...

    question 27" 1920x1080 monitor recommendation

$200 is a great price. It's $252 with your posted link now. The Viewsonic uses LED PWM Dimming so if the price delta is only $30 might look at the Samsung I suggested. Don't know if SD cares more about LED PWM Dimming or lowest possible price. All considerations of course.

Yeah that makes sense. Plus it's nearly the same camera with only some firmware changes. I still haven't decided what I'm going to buy yet, it at all. I'd like to see if Nikon updated anything now that Canon has. Plus my job has entered a "fuck I can't stand it" phase once again so don't...

    question 27" 1920x1080 monitor recommendation

If you need to just run out and get something from Best Buy the Samsung S27D590P is pretty good. 27", 1920x1080, PLS, 2 HDMI + 1 VGA port. No worries from PWM as it does not use LED PWM Dimming. It's not perfect as the stand is fixed, no tilt/swivel or VESA mounting points. Unit is also...

By "tests well" I mean that all the lens testing web sites, camera review sites, youtube videos, etc all say the Nikon 14-24mm is a really superb lens, and if you need it and can afford it you really should get it. Because it's really good, not crap. A bunch of Nikon lenses have dropped in...

The Nikon 14-24mm tests really well, is a stop faster at f/2.8 and is $1000 cheaper. I hope the Canon 11-24 tests well, but even then $3000 is a whole lot of cash. But it would be a dream lens for landscape shots.
