    Some work on my A3

IIRC, most alloy type rims can't be repaired as the heating process to make the metal malleable so it can be repaired will actually harden the metal making it brittle. (And just pushing/hammering it back without heat will leave micro-fractures which are just as dangerous). IIRC, I've never...

Having been a student at Uni, when most of my peers were young enough to be my child, is a strange feeling indeed. However in your case I would go, as I've found most young students to be accepting of older students.

    Windows 2012

Just did my first Windows 2012 installation today, and to be honest, I'm not too sure how to describe the experience. Firstly, joining the domain and promoting it as a DC seemed way too cumbersome, and some operations seemed to take a long time (but the latter could be a result of ESX not...

Steve Ballmer is going to retire within 12 months.

I certainly agree with Merc had to say on this.. they have transitioned to a utility and not a driver of technology. However where MS will struggle is the transition of the wider paradigm of the switch back to centralised services, eg the current trend back to the mainframe/terminal setup that...

Expertise on HP new generation servers and switch

Used to do a lot with HP from the Gen3 to Gen 7 series, but since going to Uni a few years ago haven't really touched their server stuff. (Where I work now, we custom build the desktops and the servers are either HP Gen6 based or Supermicro based, and not scheduled for replacement for 1-2 years).

Thanks, I've always liked MSE for Windows machines, especially for those that are more technical savvy and those that use NoScript, AdBlock, etc. (Where the plugins reduce the attack vector)... My parents have Trend on their laptop, but my wife is still using MSE on her laptop... might be time...

Just noticed that the RC for Win8.1 is available in DreamSpark... Anyway, the boss got a new workstation this week (along the lines of Dave's monster build minus the GPUs), and I joked with him about putting Windows 8 on it... Not a good move... We instead put Win7 on it for him... (since we...

    1. Even MS was struggling with maintaining backwards/forwards compatibility. 2. Governments (particularly EU), wanted an open standard to avoid vendor lock-in for basic documents. MS wanted theirs to be an open ISO standard, but the ODF saw this as a golden opportunity to get something that was...

Tannin, very well put. A lot of people I know simple dislike Windows 8, and a lot of change Microsoft has made in Windows recently seems to be solely for change, not as an improvement to an underlying issue. A lot of people I've spoken to recently certainly believe Microsoft is on a downside...

According to VESA (to standards body), DisplayPort supersedes/replaces DVI. PS. For those are not aware DisplayPort is defined by VESA, but HDMI is defined by a loose collection of companies... One of the reasons for HDMI was HDCP and audio as default and not as optional implementation extra.
