    IDE Drive Rack

So I'm looking for an IDE hard drive rack. Must be PATA not SATA. An example, Vantec MRK-102FD-SL, I was looking at is here. Currently I have an external enclosure with my backup drive in it (where I keep my backup images). But configuring either external usb or firewire with a ghost boot cd...

    We're back

Thank you thank you! Re Snow: I sort of wish we had snow here, instead a very mild winter with today's high temp about 50F and yesterday was about 60F. I miss the snow. But if I have to shovel more than once a week I start not to like the snow. My son hasn't had a chance to use his sled yet...

Yes street signs are sometimes missing or the old style that is small and hard to see. Though this is getting better, many green signs with white writing have appeared in the last 5 years. And many back roads have no street lights. And the 10PM thing is annoying. There are 24 hour gas...

Living a bit outside of Philly, Drexel Hill, and having to drive in NJ to visit relatives and friends, I can attest that the entrance ramps before the exit ramps is crazy. However, they actually raised their highway speeds to 65mph were most in PA are only 55mph. People drive at least 70pmh...

Thunderbird 1.5 Timeouts on Dual Core

I'm encountering timeout error messages when checking for mail in Thunderbird 1.5. They are not real timeouts as they occur instantly. Windows XP SP2, AMD X2 3800, NOD32. I've done some research that I thought I'd share here. Most people believe this is a dual processor problem. So some have...

Recommendations: PCI SATA controller with no pseudo-RAID?

Any of these fit the bill? I think the 66Mhz stuff is just that it supports it but is also backwards compatible. Just find a card with the silicon image chipset of your choice. http://www.syba.com/product/43/02/index.html

    Folding@Home

Yes, I'm running two instances. With a P4 and hyperthreading you should probably only run one, but a dual core is actually two cpus so I figure why not. This is also why I want to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB.
  11. W

    Folding@Home

Let's see your comparing a single core processor at 3Ghz to a dual core processor at 2Ghz. Mine completes 2 work units in less than 2 days. So divide by 2 = 1 work unit in less than one day. Not sure how this is slower? Slower per core maybe. And we are probably talking about a f@H core...

    Folding@Home

They seem to be a little less than 2 days per WU. So about with each at 450 points, I'll probably average 500 or 450 points a day and my graph will look odd with two work units submitted one day and none the next and two the day after that.

I've been having a problem even before the latest upgrade I think but really only recently. Maybe since the firefox 1.5 upgrade. Essentially I visit the forum by going to the forum index page then open a tab for each unread forum. Then I open a tab for each unread topic. This should mark all...

  15. W

    Folding@Home

Yeah but I only got 1GB of memory. I'm going to upgrade it hopefully soon to 2GB but I think this means I'll be using all four memory slots (4x512MB). I'm a little leary about doing that.

    RaptorX

The window would be cool. But the performance of this drive is also outstanding if it is the same drive that SR reviewed. If I hadn't already invested in SCSI and a Fujitsu 15K drive I would be considering this drive.

    Vomit Box: A lesson learned

    150GB Raptor announced

According to the SR review it is the best performing 10K rpm drive for single users, SCSI included. It is only in gaming performance and using 15K rpm SCSI drives that it is bested for single user performance.

I read the review. Performance is outstanding for single users. Price is practically out of this world as mentioned previously. But I suppose they have to recoup their R&D costs somehow.

    ASUS writing RAID software now?

Not likely. Silicon Image's controllers can be flashed IDE only or raid controllers. I had an add-in card based one and had to flash it to IDE only to get it to work like I wanted. See the bios's available here.
