Thanks Coug. What saved me was wearing all the right gear, so my advise for any rider is to wear it, and don't skip it. Full face helmet, jacket, gloves, real leather boots is a must. Case in point, my jacket has a 10cm gash along the belly region (from sliding along the top of the guard rail)...

It wouldn't bother me too much, it would be more a case of ,"&^*^* dropped the screwdriver, gotta climb back down to get it. Hope no-one was under the tower". ;) I've known a few riggers in my life time, and some of them are nuts...

In this instance, yes one does maintain control... Things happen too quickly... (The adrenaline doesn't have time to kick in nor reach sufficient levels for the typical instinctive bowel release - actually there is a lot of research into this instinctive reaction to fear or personal safety).

Thanks guys. No idea what happened with the front tyre, could've been a nail, screw, sharp stone, could've been the valve blowing, no idea... All I know is that I lost all air pressure in under 5 secs, saw a line to get off the road avoiding other traffic (so I don't get run over by a car -...

I had a "fun" day in hospital yesterday, due to being involved in a motorbike accident on the way to work... Basically, the front tyre blew, I managed to get off the freeway crossing 3 lanes to do so (as it was peak-hour I was only doing 45-60kmh), but couldn't pull up safely and went into the...

    (Australia) iiNET services, mainly QLD

Thanks time... All our infrastructure is Telstra, but iiNET must now have access to the ADSL2+ DSLAMs at the exchange, as they are one 1 of 4 providers who offer ADSL2+ on our exchange (according to whirlpool and ads2lexchange). Actually one of the reasons for migrating all our services away...

Cheapest way to combine 18 Linux servers into one (or two)

If you can consolidate the Linux distributions to the few that offer full support for Xen, then Xen would be my recommendation. IIRC NetBSD and FreeBSD both support running as Xen guests, so that would allow you to consolidation both OSes onto the same hardware... (You can also run Windows on...

    New phone time

Unfortunately not here - one can get a new unlocked Samsung GS 3 cheaper... (avg here is AU$750+). Our budget is approx AU$300 per handset. (The Desire X is $299 for a network locked , or AU$325 for an unlocked one). And my wife doesn't trust Windows on her laptop, let alone her phone... Noted...

Mid to Entry level Android handsets Hi All, While we would all love to get the latest and greatest, my wife and I are after 2 new handsets, so budget constraints prohibit it. Short story is that we are heavily considering changing from Helstra to iiNet (Optus network) for our mobile service...

    Cheap graphics cards, 2013

Out of curiosity, have references for the crashy behaviour? (I'm still running the nVidia 295 driver series, since the 300 series offer nothing above what my current hardware is capable of). Also, currently I can run 10bit colour channels**, offer up to 16K x 16K displays (in multi-monitor)...

    Cheap graphics cards, 2013

Currently I have my netbook (Intel Atom N570) driving two monitors (beware the resolution limitations with Intel setups IIRC, no larger than 4096px wide/high - but this may have changed with SB/IVB), and a nVidia Quadro FX580 (aka 9500GT) driving two 20" monitors quite happily. Server farm aberrations : is it normal?

Completely agree with what dd says... Mind you I can't talk about my current workplace (2 fulltime employees - 9 physical servers - but we use a lot of virtualisation for server role separation (about 20 roles) and utilise a lot of storage - 7 of the servers are just for storage). A previous...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

I've been doing some reading on the PS4 design (based on rumors, etc), but it would appear that Sony (and MS, since the XBox720 according to rumours will have a very similar design hardware wise to the PS4), is that the PS4 core design is based around the GPU with the CPU cores grafted on it and...

We're I'm working now, I've got just under 50TB of available storage (and most of it is full), we've migrated away from hardware based RAID onto ZFS storage pools for the file servers, simply due to silent corruption that was not picked up on the underlying hardware (RAID50 config). Combined...

problem CPUID's CPU-Z program causes my desktop pc to "freeze".....

Stupid thought of the day, doesn't CPU-Z probe the chipset and hardware specifications in particular the memory bank setup? Maybe it's touching something that's causing the lockup? Don't worry I wouldn't recommend a ZFS based setup if that's not what you know or have time to invest in learning... WHS and it's storage setup is one option (if you can find WHS for sale somewhere) and AFAIK the most popular front end seems to be XBMC for media centers if you don't want to...

It attacks a copy of the local SAM database attempting to match passwords to stored hashes. It doesn't attack live systems. (Hence time's comment "This is stupid"). You need to get a copy of the local SAM database to use this, but if you have enough privileges/access rights to get it, that...

Having used Win8 for about a week, agree 100%. The Modern UI and integration with the rest of the system feels more like a Alpha-release technology mock-up/preview, and not a releasable product. It doesn't take a genius to see why Win8 has a very slow adoption rate with general consumers.
