SSDs - State of the Product?

Now it is $4390. :( That's about the cost of 4x8TB regular SSDs.

I had one 4TB of the iNtel die quickly on the U2 adapter of StarTech. It turned me off of U2 on adapters.

It is $4300. So two, plus all new batteries and tax is around 9,500. That's too much without some better lenses and a higher res body also.

    Seagate Wretched

The WD is more expensive, but it is quiet and does not rattle like Seagate. I will stick to the WD DC or Gold in the future. Now the retail IronWolf Pro are $229.

Its's just the same as the 7900X other than chipset support and power. If your current equipment is like 3000 series then it will be a big improvement. The Cpu performance was about 10% down from 6000 to 4800. You can get 2x48GB. I have a couple of the WD RED 4TB NAS SSDs. They are only pcie...

All of the larger companies we use have TEAMS, though other stuff as well if customers need it. If you work with a small company that has maybe only $50M gross, and they get a contract for a $20M project from a large multibillion organization, don't you implement whatever TEAMS or the Google, etc.?

    Seagate Wretched

I'm only reading that "the laws of the State of California, USA, govern this limited warranty," not that there are separate laws for drives purchased for California. It reads that the replacements are only good for 90 days. This whole deal makes the retail drive value practically bogus.

We are expected to use the TEAMS for unofficial, unregulated file storage. It's kind of like SharePoints, but worse. Too often nobody can find anything or they do not have access. :( Then we are expected to use the OneDrives for personal work files, which is another stupidly designed MS...

Wow, that 7000 series looks downrigth puny in comparison! Are the gaps for cooling?
  14. LunarMist

    Ryzen

It looks like a cooling solution issue that might require redesign of the CPU package and socket. It always seems strange to me that cooling is from the top cover only and there is none below. How is the cooling done for the 350-400W XENON and EPYC server CPUs that run for years straight?

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

I was thinking of two R5 IIs, one R5 and one R7 for September as the environment is risky to gear and cost is very high. If not available, I'll only get one. Sometimes only 2-3 bodies is fine. For example, if cost is high, but risk is low, then I'd choose three bodies. If cost is low and...

Thanks. It works. I've restored and updated so many Win 10 C:s lately that I did not notice. The particular system has a C: in front of the 100MB EFI and then a data parturtition. It has no silly restore partuition.

    Ryzen

I've avoided INtel lately since their CPUs require Win 11, but it's mostly a question about the heatsink as I'm not into the water powered cooling. Is the upcoming Arrowhead Lake expected to have lower, same, or better power efficiency than the 14th? I don't really care about petaflipflops per...
  21. LunarMist

    Ryzen

So you agree that iNtel is the better option. GreekBench is not a very good indicator if the multicore results are only ~6-7x of the single core when there are 12-16 cores. Merc is right that we need more application benchmarks. I'm hoping this is not like Sky Lake to Kaby Lake.

    Ryzen

There is a small chance that I would replace the old 5700G system with a 9900X in 2025, but that has nothing to do with the main problem. There was a 20% increase from the 3950X to the 5950X on the same boards about one year later. Maybe there will be some miracle, but I'm not expecting that...

    KVM Switch

If the motherboard is on a ~15kg computer, it is essentially an immovable object, yanking on the cord accidentally with force at an angle is excessive. I could blame casters or species. I've also experienced failures on power banks only 1.2m above ground level.

    KVM Switch

I've already ripped off a couple and had to extract the remnants of the USB-C plug from the socket very carefully. Maybe the cables are inferior but they all seem to suffer from the same level of flimsibility at the connector. The great failure of USB-C is actually that it is only a "micro"...

So long as nVidias retain the HDMI outputs for several cycles it should be fine. I don't see future laptops or "NUCs" having a DP, just a slow decline of HDMI and continuation of the USB-C. USB-C is such a flimsy connector, I really don't like it. Do you guys experience them being damaged...

    Seagate Wretched

It's the IronWOlf Pro, which since ~2023 ironically has an upgraded MTBF and UBER similar to the EXOS. It is being used as an individual drive. Frankly it's a bit ridiculous that Seagate would be doing data recovery on drives in a NAS. I would not bother with an RMA either, but it's not my...

    Ryzen

So the single thread 9900X is about 16% more than the 7900X, but the multicore is only 11% more? That is a pretty lame upgrade for a 2-year cycle. I doubt that there will be any difference at the single core level with the 9950X compared to 9900X, but maybe multi-core speed will scale better...

    Seagate Wretched

That rather sucks since I was hoping for a symmetrical extra cache, not just for the 8 cores. I guess that APPLE hogging all the good manufacturing and AMD focusing on the Zen part 6 is part of it also. That makes it easier to simply get the 9950x up front. By the time they have the X3D it...

There are plenty of causes of death, some more prevalent in rural vs. city areas. I'm sure it is far more likely to be injuured or killed in a vehicular crash on the roads near the corn fields, than by a "bogeyman" in the corn itself.
