The most exciting thing I read recently was that the 9950X will draw a max of 190W compared to the 230W of the 7950X. If correct, that will mean that the 9950X is much less likely to throttle back with air cooling and perform better for those of us on the NHD-15. For example, my 7950X...

Won't the shipping cost negate any advantages of buying from there? The price of the 9950X is only slightly higher than the 9900X so it's an easy choice to get the better CPU. I wonder if there will be a MicroCenter deal with a cheap mainboard.

That's nice, but huge compared to the M.2 drive. I typically use much smaller NVMe enclosures since there usually multiples and weight limits are strict on small aircarft. I don't like to fly anything with less than 3000kg MTOW.

It's a big ripoff that there are not more PCiE lanes on the non-server systems and the stupidly X870E Thunderbowl steals even more. The threadwarper 7970X is only $2400 or do you need more than 32 cores? At least you get quadro-DDR5 RAM and a crapload of PCIe 5 lanes. I'm pretty sure water...

    Network the NAS

Yes, it is listed as 2.5Gb and I'm getting >200MB/sec. read/write to NAS #2 and NAS #3. The drivers are from 2019, but the Realitek one that AMD suggested to use. In the diagram above the NUC is now the 4x4 8840U with the Realitek 2.5GbE and the afflicted NAS is Main NAS. I'm not sure if there...

    Network the NAS

AssRock 4x4 2.5GbE transfer speed is quite slow through the 10Gb SFP+ switch to the 10Gb SFP+ of the NAD. The read speeds from NAS therough the switch to the 4x4 are good. The 4x4 has 2.5GbE Realitek. I don't recall this same issue with the NUC 11 which has an iNtel 2.5GbE. What would be...

The challenge with that asymmetrical extra L3 cache is that the impact is all over the place depending on how the application uses it. Games are one of the main use cases, whereas other software benefits more from fewer faster cores like iNtel and the extra cache does little. Did you run...

Disabling the SMT for the Ryzens was the most effective for me. 16 cores is enough and it keeps the CPU from throttling. Single-thread is so dependent on the generation of architecture.

Are you saying that if 12 cores are used in a 12-core CPU that is better than using 12 cores from a 16-core CPU? I did not think there is much if any performance advantage to fewer cores in modern desktop CPUs and most programs. The core power/speed is so dynamically managed and also the...

I don't see any prices yet. Will the 9950X be $700 or so? If replacing the old 7950X, then is it just a matter of removing the fans, unscrewing those two screws with a long screwdriver, gooping the new CPu and then reinstalling, right? I really don't want to remove the motherboard and the...
