    question Which Tablets

I just inherited a Dell Venue 8 Pro. I don't get the tablet thing. Seems like my Samsung Mega works a bit better, and without Windows 8.1. Very small resolution... Hard to find things, many aren't manageable. Just don't get the whole tablet things.

Pretty darn good for a mechanical drive. This is noticeable from my other big drives, that run about 120 and 150 MB/sec.

Smartphone and plan advice (v. clean slate)

My SO cut her phone bill from Verizon 75 a month, for an Iphone, to around 25 a month, for two phones, one GSM one CDMA. If one doesn't work in an area, the other generally does, so, you save 50 dollars, and have coverage on two networks, Sprint and TMobile for 25 a month. Admittedly, she almost...

Why do you think I'm with Ting now? They offer Tmobile's network, and sprint's, without the monopoly crap that has become standard for Tmob, Sprint, Verizion, and AT&T.

    Ting?

Just got off Sprint: Lost my phone number. Seems it has to be active to switch to Ting. Of course they stop you from switching if it's active, by saying you owe money, even if you've paid them extra, which I did. Had to move my phone back to 4.4.2 to get the Ting number and service to work...

Smartphone and plan advice (v. clean slate)

Check into Google Fi with the Nexus 6. Problem with your question is recommendations should be based on your useage, and you don't have data to provide, since you don't use two of the three key factors in figuring cost. Ting offers the Tm network with a variety of phones, that can load Sim...

I was wrong. 9 dollar bill. Just switched her iphone 4 over to Ting, because it's GSM. Anticipate that will be the phone that goes to Europe. Ting Now has GSM on TMobile's network, and CDMA on Sprints.

    Reasons to Root your phone?

Of course. The ideal would be to start with what I have, a pretty much stripped down version of Googles' near latest operating system, then add items as you need them. The best way to do that would be get a phone from Google, and run it on Fi. The problem is the limited phones they offer both...

    Reasons to Root your phone?

Uninstall uses root access but, it is better at letting you know what you can get rid of, and can't. Plus it hasn't bugged out, and deleted a bunch of stuff in a loop. To be real, aren't that many apps that you can get rid of, safely. Turns out rooting is better for extending battery life...

    Reasons to Root your phone?

Fun with rooting. I deleted a few functions I liked through RomToolbox Pro, and wanted them back. Reasons to Root your phone?

I was a root user without Supersu, which makes you sort of not a root user, and, limits program functions, maybe. Somehow, in the Rom Toolbox loop, Supersu was deleted. It's now been replaced, so we'll see if RTP actually works to restore the functions I lost from the system. Noteably I can't...

    Financial on phone companies?

One of the tools to use if your getting a good value on your purchase is what are the profits and financial statements of the companies you are buying products from? Project Fi

Odd as this may sound, being on the cutting edge of phones has some real disadvantages. Rooters haven't worked out a fool proof way of rooting on most new devices. I'm not at all convinced that the value for a cutting edge phone is there. The market is really weird. I paid 140 dollars for my...

600 spread over two years would be 25 a month. That, plus the Fi useage bill makes it pretty much a wash with my current Sprint bill @55.00 with everything on it. Plus I don't have to fork over 650 dollars up front.
