Wow, what are you using three 4K monitors for? They must be consuming far more power than the video cards. I looked at 4K displays a few years ago and the good ones were astronomically priced.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

The 5D II was a suck in many ways - one of the worst cameras I ever bought. Of the Canon bodies only the 1D series had decent AF in 2008. The 100-400 II was first shipped in late Q4 2014. It deserved at least the contemporary 5D III or 1DX and was designed to meet the optical demands of the...

    Windows 11

Then the Lunar Lake might still be the best choice in Q1/Q2 2025 for 28W laptops if I understand correctly. My laptop budget is quite low - only $1500 not counting M.2 SSDs. I would want at least 8TB (preferrably an option for 16TB) of SSDs.

    Windows 11

The 14th gen laptops just came out recently and now are already obsolete. I was not convinced 155 than a 1360P other than maybe 2x of the graphics going from really slow to just slow. Do you think that the AMD 28W mobile CPUs coming out later this year are substantially better and what about...

    Windows 11

How does the hardware affect 3rd party application performance? Is the Greekbench optimized for the new system? We saw that some x86 programs are hardly accelerated by the APPLE M stuff over the old iNtel and that only the new, natural software for M worked much better. I almost always plug in...

I'm glad to have folks in supply chain that monitor such things. It was certainly a problem especially in 2021 when some products were super difficult to source (like the microcontrollers) and had insane prices or >80 weeks lead times for some custom items we needed in large quantity (not...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

The R5 was a bit of a nightmare in 2020 and better with 2021 FW. An R5 II and an R5s with more pixels would be nice. From the start the R5's reduced bit depth, fixed 20FPS, and mediocre scan speed were all a headache in ES mode.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

I don't know about Swedish prices, but the smaller Canon batteries are rather much per Wh. The R5 II should be really good when it is finally released.

You will want spare batteries. A 7.5Wh battery does not go far for MILS.

Those work fine with Canon adapters. I have two of the 100-400 IS II. They were the first lenses I ever used on the R5. Canon croppers pretty much suck due to archaic sensor designs.

Since SSD prices are going crazy, I'm sure that the mobile drives are not dead yet. One of the few HDDs I had that failed was a 4TB Passport around 2016, when that was considered large. I'm willing to buy a 6TB if it is CMR, but not the painful shingles.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Video AF is rather different. My understanding is that you need slow, but steady AF and good tracking. For sure all MILS suffer from AF acquisition with tele lenses since the on-sensor AF has an inadequate effective base length. The better MILS now use some kind of AI logic to decide if the AF...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Don't expect reliable and fast AF from Canon lenses on S*ny bodies. I have Metastones and Sigma adapters and dozens of FW updates. Canon EF lenses work very well with the Canon EF-RF adapter, in some cases better than they did on EF. Don't buy weird brand EF-RF adapters. Some of the new RF...

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

I did not see anything about price but that is not unreasonable. We were paying nearly $8K for the 1Ds II back in 2004, which would be roughly $13K today. Big tele lenses are much more expensive today though.

    Ryzen

Not really. I was hoping to just upgrade the CPU from the Zen 4 to Zen 5 with simply a BIOS update for the X670E. If I have to install a new OS, new programs, figure out a usage model, etc. then it's not economically worthwhile, especially the high amount of my time. If AMD is therefore not...

    Ryzen

Now it is being reported that AMD is not supporting Windows 10 with the Zen 5, even though 10 is supposed to be good until 2025. The excuse is the need for 11 with AI, but that should not apply to the 9900 series desktop CPUs that have no NPU. And it's not like we need 11 for AMP. :(

If you are using some kind of archaic video games from pre-pandemonic eras, then the iNtel/AMD/NVidias probably don't care much about your market segement. Much of the new iNtel and AMD complicated integrated stuff is for thin/light laptops or low grade desktops that are not having a video...

Most all consumer computers need an NPU function for AI by 2025, so the older wimpy ones will be negligent. The chiplet model might have a CPU, GPU, and NPU in one package like Merc said. The hardware/OS cabal is demanding that you upgrade.

    Need a Decent Phone

My plan is not to buy any phones older than 6 months if possible. My A53 is a tad slow sometimes, I suspect caused by the underwhelming CPU. It is close to 2 years old, so the battery is still good, but a bit less than when new. My A54 is good enough for personal use. I think buying a new...
