Is there some reason to use the slower X3D CPU that has the mainboard problems at full power or is it just for video games? I saw the 7950X3D was coming out, but rejected it in favor of the regular 7950X with the higher power drain.

All those workstation/server AMD and Intel power hogs may be fine for the server room or enthusiasts at home, but MAC does that in a laptop. It's very impressive.

The performance of the 3950x was underwhelming on the lower cores. To some degree the 5950x was a mitigation of the suffering, but another $800 just 16+ months later. I stayed with the Rhizomes for 7950x so that I would not have to reinvent Windows. I have no idea when there will be better...

Why do you need rapid height adjustment on a monopod for humans at 70ft? Which head are you using?

I was rather surprised that 97% use Windows for games and most of the video cards are not very powerful. What percentage of total gaming is that? Are all the XBoxers and PSers only a small proportion of gamers? Do the MAC and LINUX users have a PS/XBOX on the side or what?

I have little to no clue of most of the subtleties, but you have money and education in all the technology and software. Gaming is a luxury and most people will accept whatever they can get with a reasonable TCO. I doubt that a high percentage is on a Ryzen compared to XBox, PS or Intel systems.

A component came off of the PCB on a very old hard drive and it is kaput. I'm not sure if the drive has data. How do I most easily destroy it? (I'm not the like the late Cougtek with weapons of destruction.) Thanks.

Those HGST MegaScale drives were cheap, designed for light loads, had only 800kh MTBF, 10^-14 UBER, and only a 3-year warranty. I suppose the low power from the 5400 or 5700 RPM produced a lot less heat than the typical "Hibachi" drives of the era, but even at 5-6W for 4TB that's a lot compared...

Those failure rates don't help the HDD cause much. Maybe they need an extra 10% of HDDs before EOL compared to 5% extras for SSDs.

The cheap junk is QLC with no RAM and low erase cycles and it is not $60 for 2TB that you would want to use. SSDs are not a substitute for huge HDD arrays in the Amazon or the Google either. I recall when many were saying that HDDs would be dead by 2015. :LOL:

Something like a 30.72TB Micron 6500 Ionic SSD would be good for me. However, I still need the HDDs for NAS. It would be great if an 8-bay could hold everything.
