I really like the idea of a super-sized battery, but unfortunately that model does not appear to be available here. Of course, the Razr lacks a removable battery so some people wouldn't consider it without the big battery. Having said that, I suspect the main problem is that Motorola shafted...

    New phone time

Yeah, we researched the Vodafail issues thoroughly about a year ago, when my daughter moved from Optus (Virgin) to Vodafone. We did some tests beforehand as well, and performance since in a variety of sites has been better overall than Optus. The big takeaway from that forum et al is that...

The same guy did a terrific review of the HTC One X camera. It includes double blind samples at the end where you have to guess which are from a Lumix FZ-100 camera, a Galaxy Note, an iPhone 4S and the HTC One X. Great fun, everyone should take a look.

Almost all do. I assume Samsung left it out of the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus to stop the Google phones cannibalizing sales from their own products. I imagine HTC had to leave it out of the One X because it's a super-thin phone; that and the non-removable battery might be acceptable to iPhone 4S...

    New phone time

After giving it some thought, I realize that I'm not convinced that the Nexus is a completely clear cut step up from an S2. Although they are probably just software issues, I'm worried about the brightness of the display, the battery runtime and the lower-specced GPU. I'd guess the 16GB...

Timely info, thanks. It's paywalled, but thanks to the power of Google, you can read it here. The decision to move rural roaming traffic from Telstra to Optus will reduce coverage, but makes sense financially because clearly Helstra is robbing them blind: customers will no longer need to pay...

    New phone time

They're all the same cost; the variation is to do with which telco I choose. You can always sell the phone and buy another one outright. You could look at it as about $15 a month for calls and $14 a month to actually buy the phone, which prices the phone at $336, interest free. I can't buy one...

    New phone time

I expect the S3 to command premium pricing for the next 6 months. I don't pay premium pricing - if I did, I would probably go with a Samsung Note 'phablet' (starting price here is $59 per month). At $29, the S2 (which now runs ICS 4.03) is hard to ignore. It has close to the best battery life...

Vodafail or Crazy Johns (which of course is the same thing with different pricing). Leaning towards Voda because I can customize the plan by adding data blocks and international calling discounts to suit. I've been with Optarse for about 12 years now. I'm just fed up with the declining network...

    Ford Mustang 2012 review

55:45 is the same as the current Audi S4 - the older V8 model was 62:38 (or so I've read)! I agree that $200,000 is a bizarre joke for a Mustang, which apparently still can't break 4 seconds for 0-60. Unsurprising given that the existing Shelby models already can't put all their power down to...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

In a commercial situation such as an office, most of the light I 'see' is direct illumination of the objects I'm looking at, such as a piece of paper on the desk. The only significant reflection is from the object to my eyes, which of course is how we see. I'm suggesting that natural light is...

Bozo mixed up the tag somehow: there's no URL. I agree that apart from extended life (presumably 25000 hours), it's not obvious how this improves on a 23W CFL. In fact, with 2700K the only color temperature option and a far higher price, it seems like a retrograde step.

Ever heard of an intercooler? The 2 liter Ecoboost is a state of the art engine. I know what you are saying - and you may turn out to be right - but Ford has gone to inordinate lengths to ensure durability in the Ecoboost range.

    Ford Mustang 2012 review

I agree that the info is confusing, but that's the standard Focus, not the ST. That would be delivery late 2012 - if you look more carefully, Ford is taking orders right now. You couldn't be more wrong. The turbocharger is a mandatory component of EcoBoost and Ford has accordingly designed...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Apart from the times when the sun is streaming directly through a window, all interior light of external origin is reflected and shadows are highly diffused. The color varies widely according to what it's been reflected off, but I certainly wouldn't count on the color temperature being 5500K or...

In response to Ddrueding: AFAIK that's not correct. The sun is well below 4500K at sunrise and sunset; it seems it doesn't pass that for at least two hours after/before. Eg: http://www.apogeephoto.com/july2004/jaltengarten7_2004.shtml To be pedantic, the actual Sun color temperature is about...

Samsung Galaxy Note and pondering future device trends

Even in the US, there are countless phones that don't come with carrier-customized firmware. Under GSM, there is nothing to stop you connecting any frequency-band-compatible device to a network. You're being a bit silly.

But is that really true? It was only incandescent lighting that was yellow - fluorescent has traditionally been 'cool white', or 4100-4200K. There's a belief that people prefer lights to be yellower as they get dimmer, but I think that's a load of rubbish. Look no further than the popularity of...

I can now buy drop-in replacement LED lamps from Osram. Unfortunately, there are only two choices of color temperature: 3000K and 6500K. WTF? That's the L. Lenovo claimed that the L wasn't a direct replacement for the SL, and indeed they did coexist for a while.
