That sucks. I'm likewise having computer and car problems. Seems the oil seals blew, and the car is gushing oil, into the timing chain area, and out onto the muffler and cat. 700 dollars later, I hope it was worth doing. My car has 248,000 miles on it, and, I've had it since new. Don't know if...

Tuning 2003 server for workstation use

Swede: I couldn't get Quake 3 to install. So, I did the install on my XP 32 bit machine, copied the folders over to the 2003 server machine, and it works fine. I can't get PowerDVD to install on 2003, and they say it's not supported. Couple others that slip my mind. Get back to you, when I...

Tuning 2003 server for workstation use

Hi Swede: Nice to have you here. 2003 server is a different animal then XP. Hence the thread. I currently have a bunch of computers running XP, and, what works on them does not usually work on 2003 server. Hence this thread. 2003 Server is incredibly fast, and a joy, but games, and...

    HIS brand video cards

Mercutio, that's what's weird. The X1600 HIS card is 150 bucks at new egg, and, I think that was open box. The X850XT from HIS is 180, full retail package with lots of goodies, from Newegg. WEIRD. I'd ordered the X1600, thinking it was close to the 1900, due to the numbering scheme. Then I...

    HIS brand video cards

The X1600 pretty much sucks. For a bit more, if you are gaming, the X850XT will thrash it, and, in the games I play, by up to 100%, with eye candy turned on. XL 800 just went south, ati, with passive cooler. I don't think passive is a good idea on that hot a chip. Sincerely Greg

Have you ever had the wrong OS on a box?

Mercutio: Does Windows put all the drivers in one file, that you could copy, for a driver backup? In other words, take the file, burn it to CD, with the installed drivers already there, rather then having to go searching for drivers? Or, does it just have to be shown a path to a file, so the...

Have you ever had the wrong OS on a box?

Sechs: Yes, tried it once, didn't like the Gigabyte motherboard, Nvidia 3 Chipset, IIRC, and wouldn't install. Finding drivers was a hassle, but, that machine had a Matrox video card, and a few other fairly old components, not in the mainstream. Very funny Howell. Come to think of it...

Ramblings on the brands we love (or hate)

I'm pretty happy with the ATI XL800X series of cards. Great gaming, very good 2d, not totally offensive software, overall about 9.5 on a scale of 10. I wish Matrox would come up with a decent gaming gpu, I still miss that crystal clarity you could get with the P650, or for that matter, P550. Greg

Have you ever had the wrong OS on a box?

Mercutio: When I started out doing this, I wasn't ready to give MSFT 400 dollars for an OS. 2003 Server is not supported by a bunch of stuff. For example, Razer mouses software, only XP and 2000. I'm not going to sit here and tell you of all people, what's so cool about 2003 Server. To sum it...
