    question Glasses

So ~3 years later, but I'm finally getting around to this. I have an appointment in about 2 weeks to get my eyes checked and get new prescription glasses. The Crizal Sapphire 360° UV AR coating that has subsequently come out since the thread was started looks interesting to me. I'm also...

So it's September now. When this month is the 3950X supposed to drop? Of course the 3900X is still quite hard to come by so the 3950X might be even harder to get.

    Something Random

So I have video from two of my security cameras showing the package Amazon delivered to my house yesterday blowing away in the wind. The wind lifted it, carried it off the porch, then down and across the driveway, and then down the sidewalk toward other houses. The white padded envelope sure...

    dSLR thread

Canon seems to want to fall further and further behind their competitors. Using the same slow roll strategy of slow plodding deliberate upgrades that was used for years (decades?) [when the market was growing] doesn't seem like a great strategy when the market is in a death spiral of...

    dSLR thread

No, I mean how Canon has watered down the video features. Like removing p24 video. And how they're still being stingy with their "4K" by not employing full sensor read out oversampling.

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

The tripod isn't for video. Especially not in the traditional pan/tilt sense. It would be for photos (long exposures) or as a base for the gimbal when doing automated panning timelapses or panoramas.

Well, I will gladly accept donations. This isn't a photography trip. I'm going on a tour and am bringing a minimalist setup for taking decent video and photos. Per demon? Exactly what sort of trips are you taking and where are you finding your help?

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

$200 for 4TB isn't that cheap IMHO. Sure, in the grand scheme of things compared to the cost of cameras, lenses, and other accessories, it's not really expensive, but I just don't see that much value in the device itself. I'd rather buy $200 in SDXC cards capable of at least U3/V30 performance.

    Home Mesh Network With OpenWrt?

paging @ddrueding I haven't done what you're after. I think this was discussed previously in a thread or two here, but it didn't seem like there was a clean solution without spending a fair bit on higher end hardware.

Another Digital Camera Thread - Point and Shoot

Canon really knows how to hit it out of the park with a new camera in 2019 that wouldn't have at the top of the pack even if it had come out in 2015. The early reviews from people who actually bought it are pretty brutal as opposed to the flowery spin from the people Canon gave a camera too...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Probably not. I just seems like an overpriced & uninspired piece of hardware. I think I'd rather spend the money on cards instead and do my best with my phone + hub rig.

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

Originally I was thinking to dump the cards and reuse them. But then I was thinking that I'd like to have the pictures backed up which would mean leaving them on the cards and making a second copy to the HDD. 4k Video is rather large though. I suppose one option would be to not copy off the...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

I got the Rocketek today and tried it out. I supplied power to the hub with a micro USB from a standard 2A USB charger, plugged in the 5TB 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD to the hub and put a SD card in the card slot. I was able to copy 9.xGB of files to the 5TB HDD without any issue using Solid Explorer and...

Backing up memory cards on the go without a laptop

I don't see why it would be much different than using a PC. It's just a different OS with the two devices connected to it. If the phone or tablet has USB 3.0 it should be just as fast as a USB 3.0 PC. My current phones and tablets don't have USB 3.0 though. Android has native OTG support now...

Well, both of the devices I linked to have provisions for providing external power to them. I tried connecting my Seagate 2.5" 5TB USB 3.0 drive (formated to exFAT) to my phone and copying data to it, but it made some funky noises that made me nervous during the copy. I expect the phone...

That would be to shoot handheld video or to shoot motorized pans/sweeps (you can set up motion points with the phone app and have it move between at a programmed speeds). I'm thinking to get the new Sony RX100 VII ahead of a trip I'm taking overseas in the fall. I think it's overpriced, but no one else has a viable pocketable travel camera like it.
