That's not what I meant. I meant saving money as in the accrual of more money to afford a more expensive build, not that those components were going to get cheaper.
The CPU is cheaper at Microcenter. The build is a little low end. What's the 1TB HD for? Why not skip it and get a larger SSD?
I'm not entirely sure how much better can be done for the price though. The goal is pretty tough. I'd be tempted to wait and try to save a few hundred more dollars.
When did $300-400 become the price for a mainstream enthusiast motherboard? The X570 boards seem to be quite expensive and the Ryzen 3xxx chips see to have a noticeable performance drop when use in the other chipsets.
The FireTV Stick 4K wouldn't be my choice for Kodi usage. I only got it for Prime Video. I'm not running Kodi on it nor do I have any plan to. I might try it just to see if Kodi has the same frame drop/repeat issue though. It can't do passthrough for any of the lossless video codecs. You...
I have not. FWIW the people on the Kodi forum say the FireTV Stick 4K has better picture quality than the Shield. The low price ($25 during Prime Day) and feature set had me starting there since I got it mainly for Prime Video playback (this is my first foray into streaming).
However, it...
I have to say I'm pretty unimpressed with the FireTV Stick 4K. It's real slick from a UI and feature set standpoint, but it doesn't seem capable of playing back video at the proper frame rate without slight stutters from dropped/repeated frames. I mean that's only it's primary job. :poop:
50% more money on the CPU (supposedly) for something like to 33% more performance... Depending on the pricing of the Zen 2 based Threadripper they still might make more sense. Even if the 32 core one is 2x the price of the 3950X for ~2x the performance it'll still likely be cheaper to build...
What registrar are you guys using these days? My Domain is up for renewal with Namecheap at like $15 a year and I wondered what registrars people are using.
In general I would be careful with that unless you're planning to add an additional processor to add delay to the more forward pair so the sound from the two pairs arrives time aligned at your ears.
I say put the speakers in the correct location for the row you plan to sit in and the people in...
How far from the side walls and rear wall are the seats? I'm guessing not that far from the sides given your 12.6' width.
That's 7.2.4. You may want speakers you can angle unless they're ultrawide dispersion. I angled mine down at 45 degrees.
I'm hesitant to recommend speakers I haven't heard plus I don't know your preferences or how picky you are...
That said, I would consider these given your criteria:

I was quite impressed with the Emotiva T1/T2 speakers when I heard them at CES in 2018. I'd give them some consideration. The T2 is a bit more sensitive, but they both have a driver complement that's going to be able to produce higher output with less distortion than a small bookshelf...
Two subs may offer a smoother in room frequency response if they're placed in the right spots, but that's probably not on top of each other in the same spot.
If you want a home theater those aren't the first speakers that would pop on my list. You want probably something with more efficiency...
It seems like somewhere along the Windows 10 feature update chain they changed the behavior of the start command and how controls on processor affinity work. It looks like programs can now escape the affinity limits of the process that called them.
Previously I could place affinity limits on...
I haven't, but why hinges and a piece of T-slot? I'd use a hooks and eyelets and let it hang from a 2x4 across the joists (or similar). Plus you can level it easily after the fact by simply threading them in or out.
The Zen 2 performance looks to be good for x265 as more data trickles in. More cores mean more performance. I'm torn on whether I should go for the 12 core 3900x, wait for the 16 core 3950x, or wait even longer for the next gen Threadripper.
Well I have taken to doing that now. The jobs are only a few days long. I'll have to remember it to toggle off though.
It's on a network and needs to access resources on it. I realize I could still take it off the internet, but I shouldn't have to nor do I want that hassle.
Yes, it has a stacked Sony sensor. I think the Sony RX100 Mk VI is too expensive, and I'm not real keen on the lens zoom range and resulting apertures. The RX100 Mk VA is also pricey, and is a bit short on zoom. I was hoping the G7X Mk III would be the camera I was looking for with a lens...
If a panel is covered you don't get any power. If part of it is shaded you may not get any power depending on what part is shaded. If you have multiple panels in series, one of the panels in shade will cause problems getting much power as well.
So they arrived last night. They have uncropped 4k video, but the quality is terrible. The footage is really soft. It looks like 720p that's been scaled up (not that well either).
Windows 10 has pretty much hit my breaking point on reboots for updates when the system is not idle. I have had Windows 10 reboot in the middle of a multi-day video compression job for the last time. About 53 hours into a roughly 72 hour job (non-resumable) Windows reboots... Both CPU's are...
I looks like the Ryzen 3900X might be 3x as fast as my E5-2687W v2 at x265 encoding. A few reviews that use the x265 FHD Benchmark show it getting almost 60fps and my E5-2687W v2 gets 19.05fps. The benchmark uses a much faster x265 preset than I normally use for x265 so it's hard to say if the...
Reviews are out. It looks like if you're a gamer and want the absolute fastest Intel is still the leader by a small bit. In multithreaded non-gaming workloads Ryzen 3xxx takes Intel to the cleaners.
The 12 core part has my interest. I'm not sure how the 16 core part can have the same TDP and run 4 more cores at the same frequencies. I'll wait for reviews.
