    Vehicle Telemetry Recorders

Most cars have some level of data recording tied to the airbag system that the vehicle manufacturer can access to defend the deployment of the airbags, but it's very very limited access.

Problem with Router and Desktop's NIC

Are you sure your cable modem doesn't lock access to a particular MAC address? I remember early on in the broadband days you would have to clone the MAC address of your PC (that you setup the cable modem with) into your router to make it work.

Like that's going to be an option. The cops will just plug into your car and download the box because you'll consent. And if you refuse to consent they'll bring in the ____ sniffing dog who sits on cue after getting the signal from the handler and then they'll have probable cause to search...

I want to buy a new car

So, basically my impression of Europe based on my time in Belgium and Germany is that unless you want to live like people did before they had cars you need to have a car. I'm thinking back to the days of horse and buggy in the US like the late 1800's. You lived within a relatively close...

I want to buy a new car

I've been to Shanghai several times in the past 2 years. First, it's absolutely huge and second, it's very expensive to live there. There's no way public transportation and bikes can get everyone to and from their jobs to where they live.

So I went ahead and bought a vacuum sealer and Sous Vide from Monoprice. They showed up last week. I'm waiting on my plastic container that I'm going to use for my hot water bath to get here from Amazon. I played with the vacuum sealer a bit tonight to make sure it works. I was a little...

    Audio Equipment

Do you need an amp or a receiver? You mention an amp, but the Yamaha piece you referenced is a receiver. You linked to the Emotiva X-series gear which does not include a receiver. It has pre-amps and amplifiers.

    Sous Vide cooking Great stuff

130-150F is hardly "heated" when it comes to the plastics used. Some products see higher temps than that in shipping. Why would you need induction heating if you can get it waterproof? The cooking is in a warm to hot water bath. By the way, isn't Aluminum foil bad for food too? I think...

    Sous Vide cooking Great stuff

Most food is packaged in plastic. Milk, cereal, bread, chips, crackers, cookies, condiments, soda/pop, water, etc. I can't see how your two small precautions are reducing your exposure to plastic on your food. How would you seal the food in metal foil under vacuum and keep the water water out?

That's always a concern, but people eat sushi with raw fish and "undercooked" steaks and seafood all the time.

    Sous Vide cooking Great stuff

According to whom? The temperatures are too low to cause any problems with the plastic melting or breaking down and the plastics used don't have BPA or other chemicals people are worried about. Do you ensure your food has no contact with plastic?

    Sous Vide cooking Great stuff

Has anyone beside Santilli tried a Sous Vide? I'm super tempted to get a Sous Vide setup w/ vacuum sealer now that you can get them relatively inexpensively at Monoprice. Their Sous Vide is $69.99 shipped and the Vacuum sealer is $79.99 shipped.

Someone hit the nail square on the head. Your thoughts exactly mirror mine. There was about 4 really interesting minutes. Totality + about 30-40 seconds on either side of it. The long lead in and lead out are neat, but totally paled in comparison compared to the center few minutes. How many...
