    Mac Pro (2019)

I assume most people have seen the new Mac Pro announcement? Certainly impressive machine (and it's reported to come in at a tidy $50K fully specced out). However, digging through the announcement you see a lot about CPU performance (using Intel Xeon), memory capacity (up to 1.5TB RAM)...

IIRC, most Spectre variants will work even on single core systems lacking HyperThreading... It's all about speculative execution engine having faults reading memory into cache when it shouldn't. IIRC, the last Intel CPU that was immune to both Meltdown/Spectre were the Atom N5x0 series (these...

Unfortunately Huawei managed to grab some notable marketshare here in Oz, so there are going to be a lot of people burnt by this... (High end phones on sale are generally either Apple, Samsung or Hauwei handsets, with 1-2 models from Nokia, LG and Oppo making up the upper-mid range stuff).

SSDs - State of the Product?

@LM Those temps are pretty typical of most NVMe from what I've seen. There are some third party heat sinks for NVMe devices available as well if it's a concern? (eg https://www.amazon.com.au/EKWB-EK-M-2-NVMe-Heatsink-Black/dp/B073RHHYCM not endorsing this one, just showing one example).

SSDs - State of the Product?

@LM, the X99 chipset supports most NVMe devices, however you will need to check with your motherboard manufacturer if your particular board supports them and in what configuration. (IIRC, some boards will disable some the SATA ports to enable NVMe support, and some boards only support NVMe...

I think this one was a simple case of Hanlon's Razor. ("Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"). For mobile devices, just need to wait for it to be pushed through the normal vetting process for the applicable app store. (shouldn't be too long).

+1 to what sechs mentions. Download the latest Win10 ISO, use the Windows Media Creation Tool to create a installation USB, and install. Barring any hardware incompatibilities it should be fine. As for activation see: https://www.storageforum.net/forum/threads/windows-10.10394/post-206565

SSDs - State of the Product?

IIRC, you need at least a Z97, X99 or Z170/270 Intel based chipset (and BIOS/UEFI) to support booting from NVMe. (Unless the add in card has the appropriate firmware to allow it to boot on legacy systems, ala SAS cards). This seems to confirm: https://forums.evga.com/NVMe-M2-on-X58-m2609961.aspx

I've read quite a few complaints about how finicky some UHD BR players are with even with a tiny bit of dirt/grease/oil/fingerprint on the disc, and that while 4K contents looks gorgeous, having to polish discs before playing was getting old, very fast.
