Annoyance of the day - ATM charge for usage

I find that tellers and bankers are very useful for fixing problems. ATMs are kind of like planes.... They're quite safe, but when things go wrong, it tends to be catastrophic. If there's a problem, you end up having to talk to those people inside the bank, so why not just cut out the...

    question Printer - Scanner

Although I've had good experiences with Samsung myself, in general, they don't make this kind of devices the way that they used to. I'd suggest getting a relatively cheap mono laser and a sheet-fed scanner. If you're making a lot of copies, either get a real copier or go to the local print...

Annoyance of the day - ATM charge for usage

I haven't used an ATM since 1998. I don't trust them -- particularly the envelope free variety. I do all of my bank transactions either electronically or in-person. I suppose it helps that I hardly ever use cash. The only place that I regularly need it is at the farmer's market.

    question easy liquid cooling?

If you have a GPU that vents out the back, try flipping the top fans to intake, and see if that makes a difference for you. Since the cooler doesn't appear to be symmetric, I imagine that the orientation of the fins may make a difference. If you had one on the liquid coolers with the radiator...

I think it's more likely that most people don't know the difference. They're probably selling out because they don't stock many. I figure that your Home Depot CFL customer ;argely fall into two categories: those looking for whatever is cheap, and those who prefer cool white or daylight CFLs.

The problem at the introduction of OS X was that it was a totally different operating system with the old MacOS interface. You have to cut compatibility somewhere, or you'll never ship. Of course, they made the whole exercise moot by switching to x86 architecture

    question easy liquid cooling?

It sounds like your case is set up to have negative pressure. What's the spacial relationship between the exhaust fans and the cooler? I guess that would be easy to solve by not letting it. I agree that these liquid coolers are unlikely to run the CPU cooler, but they might be able to get it to...

    Evil Empire

At the time that Apple was moving to the OpenSTEP platform, Mach (which is open source) had not been ported to PowerPC. So, they created an open source project to port it, baiting the developers by saying it's Linux. It would have made infinitely more sense to directly port the Linux kernel to...

    question easy liquid cooling?

It's a Phenom X6. I'm not sure how power rating would figure into the cost of a cooler, given that the processor runs cool enough to be passively cooled.

    question easy liquid cooling?

Why is your processor getting to 70? I don't think the processor in my desktop has ever been that hot. Maybe you need to input more air into your case, rather than fooling around with CPU cooler.

    Electric Cars

So, why did nearly all of the freight railroads de-electrify? I know that Great Northern, the Milwaukee Road, and Western Pacific all had portions of electrified track and ripped it out. Perhaps, but what would the payback period be? A hundred years, maybe more? Warren Buffet doesn't own any...

    Electric Cars

That's pretty much nonsense. Railroads electrify because of exhaust issues. Electrification is an expensive undertaking, and maintenance of the plant is surely at least as complicated as the diesel locomotives it displaces. The busiest railroad in the United States is the Metro-North. The...

The speed of light isn't so much a limit as it is a barrier. If you're going slower than the speed of light, you can't go any faster than it. However, if you're already going faster than the speed of light, you can't go any slower than that.
