It fixes compatibility problems with the common runtimes, but you end up with a copy of every version of the VC++ DLLs ever. It's a lot easier than fixing backward compatibility in your development tools, however.

OCZ accepting returns of slower 25nm SSD

This whole 25nm NAND move is a piece of crap. The new drives are not operationally identical to the old ones, as they have less user-accessible space and generally worse performance. Was it accounting or marketing that made this decision?

I was in Kansas at the end of January, as my brother is shipping off to Afghanistan. The day that I arrived, the high was 70. It was 0 at the airport when I left. Welcome to what happens when the arctic loop current breaks down.

    question Basic Batteries

Maybe that's the problem? I've purchased non-rechargeable batteries twice in the last five years: I bought a 9V for my smoke detector last year, and a couple of years ago, I got some C cells, before realizing that I already had adapters for AAs.

    SSD question

This is backwards thinking. If you want to reduce the wear on your drive, don't use it to boot. Heck, don't even put it in your computer. My advice has been, and continues to be, if you care, but a page file on each physical drive, and Windows will figure it out. If you have "a lot" of...

SSDs - State of the Product?

I think that's the crux of the Sandforce controller versus Micron flash difference. Sandforce is trying to deal with the reduced number of writes with their fancy controller tricks. Micron is doing it with fancy flash chip tricks. I haven't seen anything on drives using the new Sandforce...

    Question about a GPS

It uses a standard mini-USB connector. It should appear as a mass storage device in Windows. Personally, I use POIloader to add locations to an SD card and just shove that in. Since I also keep an updated map there, it's a bit less clunky than writing directly to the GPS's flash.

SSDs - State of the Product?

In theory, any drive which Windows recognises as an SSD gets the special treatment. Keep in mind, however, Windows some times screws up, and, even when it doesn't (which is the vast majority of the time), both the controller driver and the drive firmware must support trim.
