    Wireless Network Problem

I think it is the antenna. Resetting it to the default didn't help. I don't think it was the wireless card because that was able to pick up someone's Linksys AP.

    Wireless Network Problem

I reflashed the firmware to the latest, and when I did that, the laptop immediately picked up the router. It worked fine until the laptop was shut off, and now it won't connect again. Switching the channels had no affect.

    Wireless Network Problem

I got my parents a Netgear MR814 wireless router, so my mom can get online without having to go up and down the stairs, but I can't seem to be able to get a signal from it. Checking with Netstumbler, it'll find the router for a couple of seconds, then drops it for about a second. This is from...

Considering the small number of regular posters, I'd say it's about right. But I think there's something wrong with the listing for top 10 posters for this month: they account for 101% of the posts! He left for SR.

Why do people love the Barracuda ATA drives?

Not necessarily. I got my 160GB drive for $80 after rebate, about four or five months ago.

    Abit AN7 (nFarce 2 Ultra 400) query

Coug, there's a review of the AN-7 here. I just quickly read it, but other than the addition of an optical-in audio port, it doesn't look much different from the NF7-S.

    DVD Shrink 3.1.1 Released

DVD Shrink 3.1.1 was released yesterday, and now, if you have Nero installed, it will burn the DVD directly from the program. And best of all, it's Freeware.

    Building a dirt-cheap HTPC....

It's a part of MMC. In the TV app, go to the setup, and then the Personal Video Recorder. When you hit Map Preset, you can change the VideoSoap settings from there.

    Building a dirt-cheap HTPC....

VideoSoap isn't limited to the 9700/9800 - it also works on my 8500DV. It took a bit of trial and error to get settings that gave me decent results, but it does a pretty good job. I just wish it would let me change the settings on a per-channel basis, because some are worse than others. I don't...

    What did Santa bring you?

Nothing. This wasn't a very good Christmas for us. My mom is recovering a stroke (which is why I haven't been around much lately), and we were supposed to have a catered dinner for 12 of us at my parents' place, but the caterer called at the last minute and said he couldn't make it because his...

    [News] Thunderbird v0.4 released

How long does it normally take to train the spam controls? I've been marking every message as either junk or not junk (52 junk vs. 462 not junk), and so far it's only automatically caught 4 out of those 52 spams. After 500+ messages, shouldn't it be doing better than that? Even Outlook 2003's...

Yikes. I hope you feel better, Merc. Now my Thanksgiving doesn't seem as bad. I just have this really annoying cough that caused me to completely lose my voice, and I go into a coughing fit whenever I try to eat something, so I wasn't able to eat much yesterday. I was able to take home some...

    Knoppix unavailable?

Knoppix is still around. A couple of months ago, many open source software sites changed their homepage to that protest page to warn people about the possible passing of a European software patents law. It was only supposed to last for one day (or was it a week?), but for some reason Knoppix...

    DVD player troubles

It was listed as $50 last night, but when I got to the store today, it was $45. So far, it's played everything I've tried, including regular MPEG files just burned to a CD. And I like the small size.

    DVD player troubles

Does anyone have any experience with the current cheap (~$50) DVD players. I want to get one for my bedroom, now that I've transfered the last of my tapes. They'll be played on a 20" TV, so picture quality isn't as important as different format compatibility.

    Opening Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse

I just went to the store and got the MX310. It seems much sturdier than the Microsoft mouse. It's a little heavier, which I like, but the base it a little narrower than I'm used to, which makes it seem smaller than it is (it's actually the same size as my old mouse). Hopefully, this one will last.
