    zAPPLE PREDICTIONS

The new Apples seem to be a lot better value than the old ones, but still not as good as your average home built gear. I don't think apple will do aany bundling of windows themselves although they havn't precluded anyone else from doing so. Apple hardware should be aable to run windows...

Adobe Readers love afair with my desktop

O.K this is a really small thing, but it's often the small things that annoy us the most... (Well me anyway) The problem is this; Every time I view a pdf file adobe reader puts an icon on the desktop. I'm not really sure why it does this since all the program really does is to read pdf files...

    I'm Pissed...

I believe most sewage treatment plants are already capable of powering themselves and usually supplying a little excess power too by burning methane produced in the treatment process. This is also true of a lot of landfill sites. So remember, in case of some sort of doomsday scenario where the...

Canadians will elect Bush-like prime minister.

So for duck hunting with the 150mm you would use flack shells? It seems that more and more that we are being governed by corporations... Well actually it seem that more and more America is being governed by corporations and Australia, and very likely Canada and a number of other countries are...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

I found that F.E.A.R caused itself some problems for me by jusmping straight into the plot. I like to have a go at a game before I get bombarded with 15 minutes of cut scenes so as I tend to do I just skipped through all the crap at the start... The end result was that by the time I was ready to...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

I've been hanging out for Elderscrolls 4 and trying to stop playing WoW for a while now... As Mercutio pointed out Blizzard churn out some serious crap, especially since warcraft 2 and diablo. Unfortunately WoW is still probably the best of the MMORPGs and those things are addictive... One day...

    K-Lite Codec Pack

inmatrix zoomplayer offers a nice alternative to codec packs by giving you a list of codecs that you might need and links for them when you first start it. I'm not ssure if any other players offer similar features but it sure beats out media players searching for codecs it doesn't have. I've...

Wanted: tool to delete undeleteable files

Possibly irrelevant so long after the last post but killbox seems a fairly handy app for these situations. It can delete stuff on next boot or try a couple of other tricks to get rid of files right away. It can also kill some processes which task-manager will have trouble with (presumably by...

    Musings on a new PC

I'm using a pair of 1GB G.Skill PC4000 value serries DIMMs. From what I've read my Opteron is not an exceptional example, most of them will overclock at least as well. I suspect that due to being clasified as server/workstation chips they are more conservativly labeled than the consumer grade...

    Musings on a new PC

I'd seconds CougTeks suggestion of looking at the Opterons I just bought my self an Opteron 170 and I can clock it up to 2.5Ghz (from 2.0 stock) with no voltage increase, eventually the fact that I still have stock cooling on does let me down but a good air cooling solution would almost...

    Vomit Box: A lesson learned

As was stated in the journal HP actually have a reputation for quality in some circles. I know this is true, I've spoken to people who have actually bought HPs for that reason, what I don't understand is exactly how they managed this... I think I realised that HP were total garbage in the early...

Looking for a suitable RAID controller

Is there anything particularly problematic about just having a stack on un-raided drives with all your music on them? I think the latest quicktime stuff is using apples implimentation of h.264 (Mpeg4/AVC). Other than the quicktime player there are only a couple of apps/codecs capable of decoding it, fddshow (which I've always had performance issues with) and a couple of players including VLC and Mplayer...

Quick: what is a suitable video card for AutoCAD?

I guess this would be a pretty crappy time to mention that the only difference between GForce cards and Quadro cards is software and that a GForce2 can run as its Quadro equivilent with just some software tweaking... On the up side it takes very little soldering to make a Quadro out of the...

    Oddest spam ever?
