    Folding setups?

If Stanford was properly scaling the computational ability of video cards then that number would be much higher. But they don't want to diminish and alienate all their traditional folders. GPU's really can out calculate a traditional CPU by a very long ways. Stanford is actually collecting...

    Folding setups?

I have no idea. I haven't seen any data on it yet. My assumption is that the i7 should do very well, though quite spendy and it still won't compete well against GPU folding. You can get MB's for the C2D with upto 4 PCI-E slots. There is no significant PPD lost till 4x and even then it isn't...

    Folding setups?

I have added two folding video cards to machine #1 and reorganized the HW somewhat over the time period. So here is my current modified configurations. Machine #1: Intel Q9450 (OC to 430x8=3.44GHz); 4x2GB=8GB Ram; Gigabyte GA-X48-DS4 Motherboard; PC Power and Cooling Q750 PS; 2x Asus 9600GSO...

    Major rebate Processor Goes Bankrupt

It's not my fault that Epson, HP, and Canon have chosen to use an ass-backward business model that encourages disposable HW over quality, and cost effectiveness. If we last, I really expect that future mining operations will be in todays landfills.

    Major rebate Processor Goes Bankrupt

As a business, I rarely use the MIR's (It's not worth the time). Personally, I use them all the time. For example my last two video cards were bought with rebates, bringing two $100 cards down to $40 each. I also use them to buy disposable inkjets (I throw them away when I need new...

Intel's X25-E Extreme solid-state drive. All I can say is Wow. It isn't cheap for its size but it certainly is the best SSD, by far, that I've seen tested.

Alaska Sen Stevens has officially lost.

The real question is: What is wrong with all those people that voted for a convicted felon (Appeal not withstanding)? Don't they trust the court system? Is not graft, totally unacceptable in a US Senator? Don't they want their representation and the decisions he makes to be something...

    Place yer bets

I feel you need to be asking -- What caused both sticks to fail simultanously, in the same way, and at the same time, after almost a year of successfull operation? That is extemely unlikely without an external cause. To me, that still stinks of a MB problem. I would contend that the new...

    GPU folding is here!

It's starting to get cold. I just ordered a couple of cheap Nvidia 9600GSO's for $40 each. I'm going to experiment over the next two weeks to see which machines work best with the two cards and then power-up a couple of 24x7 folders: Computers, used as heaters!

    Resize a PDF?

I have to admit that it has been a very long time since seeing a pen-based plotter. I really associate the difference between a printer and a plotter is size and using HP-GL (vector graphics) vs. Postscript or dot-based printer language,

    Resize a PDF?

I'll ask the really dumb question: Does their printer driver have the ability to scale? If so, then simply scale it to 48" (or scale to fit paper width there) when trying to print the pdf without the Corel conversion process. An no, I don't off-hand know of an application that will scale pdf...

I don't think they have any justification for releasing Windows 7 as a whole new OS and charging $$$. I'm running 4x2GB Geil PC2-8500 that uses 2.1V on a Ga-X48-DQ3 and it has absolutely no problems with it. If the ram is speced for 2.2V, then np, the MB should be able to handle it. Is this a new build, or has the machine been up and running a while? RAM compatibility problems this severe don't show up on a machine that has been running a while. Does the one stick behavior occur with the other...

The race for the US presidency

The race for the US presidency

No, it is totally private, assuming the election officials are not sneaking an unauthorized peak. There are two envelopes one on the outside listing your name, address, signiture ect. The one on the inside contains the ballot with no indication as to who you are. That way, they can do all...

    GPU folding is here!

Try looking at the 9800GXT X2 as a single card that runs two GPU clients each at the same PPD as your 9800GTX. The card costs more but not twice as much as the single and uses less than twice the electricity too. So as to folding cost effectiveness it is better than either the 9800GTX or the...
