    Abusive union

If those are our bad qualities, what are our good ones? I happen to think oppurtunism and individualism are good qualities. Looking out for yourself (selfishness) is more of a balance. It's nice to be selfless and think about the needs of others, but I feel someone has every right to be selfish...

The direct contact number should be 1-800-588-3847 Sony's site sucks, it took me maybe 10 minutes just to find the right support place for their optical drives... and even then it only gives you two options, email or chat.

well, I would start off the conversation that I'm using a 6 month old xxx model drive and that it stopped reading or writing to CD's. I'm using windows 2000 and have an xxxMHz, xxxMB system that works fine with my other sony drives. I have tried this drive in another computer and the same...

The higher salary of the engineer makes it a more apealing carreer choice. If you lowered the salary, then there wouldn't be much of an incentive to be an engineer vs the grocery store bagger. Would you rather have a country full of grocery store baggers or engineers? (I think neither)...

egh... That person sounds like they had no interest in helping you or even making you feel like you've been heard. Maybe you'd have a better experience on the phone vs the chat. You were probably chatting with some Indian or Asian technical support person who ,on a scale, would rank about .1...

It's just part of my ideals. I think that it's pretty hard for someone to not have 1 useful thing come out of their mouth. So even if you don't agree with someone or you think they are annoying, there is bound to be a useful piece of information they can provide you. And thus it would be wrong...

btw, I think the big thing is the ability to run Unix/linux code within windows. There are tons of *nix only applications that I dont et a chance to try out... although perhaps thera re better linux emulators for this purpose.

    Building a Storage Server Thread

::sigh:: I remember when surfing with a 14.4kbps and 66MHZ 486 was considered a dream.... you could visit the most graphics heavy sites and sue netscape to view animated gifs... The reason why I corrected you was that you applied your hypothesis to a server, even though the job of a server...

    Building a Storage Server Thread

Bozo, I think you're a bit off there. THe older PCs are slower at rendering webpages than the p4. I however, doubt that there is much of a difference in their network utilization. (like it would matter since they are probably on a 100MBit network with only a <3Mbit internet connection)...

    Radeon 9000 vs. 8500

btw, the gfx table listed by CityK in another thread shows the 8500 as having a single 400MHz DAC, while the 9000 has 2x400MHz DACs. 1 DAC is needed per output normally (there are hacks to get 2 outputs out of a single DAC). If going the 8500 route, make sure it can do 2 outputs simultaneously...

    Radeon 9000 vs. 8500

bleh. You know as well as I do that 2D processing is CPU limited (and limited to the refresh rate of the screen anyway)... along with the previous mention of 2D use of RAM.
  30. blakerwry

    Radeon 9000 vs. 8500

They will be roughly equivalent, but I would get the 9000 if I was buying new because 1) it'd be more available 2) likely be cheaper 3) be passive For 2D work as you've mentioned no RAM past say... about 8MB will ever be touched.

    [NEWS] - Creative buys Sensaura

As far as real sound processors not just DACs Merc.... Realtek makes alot of DACs, mainly used with onboard sound solutions. VIA makes some DACs as well. VIA, Intel, SiS, and AMD make AC97 compatible southbridges that use the host CPU as a DSP.. I assume the soundstorm is a hardware based...

Figuring out the graphic card universe...need for a database

Not a whole lot of information should be travelling through the AGP bus. Just the vector and texture information. The card then takes that and computes the actual pixel/texel information onboard and outputs it to the frame buffer where your monitor then picks it up. Additionally, for...

Figuring out the graphic card universe...need for a database

The AGP voltage is determined by the motherboard, and the voltage keys and signal key (slot) in the video card. Speed is always backwards compatible, for example, a 4x device must be able to run at 2x and 1x. The signalling voltage is the only incompatible part. An 8x device must be 0.8v, a...

Just a side note, I found i didnt have to install the catalyst drivers to use the AIW card, if not playing 3d games you can use the windows drivers instead. The MMC seems to work fine with them and I would consider them more stable than the catalyst drivers.
