    Dual NICs for redundancy, howto?

If I made each card's gateway point to the other card then wouldn't they both go down if only 1 card failed? Even if it didn't, i don't see how 1) this would prevent automatic failover and 2) would be any better then leaving one of the NICs basically unused for the server and setting it up in...

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

hmm.. didnt have any effect on CPU usage.. all it managed to do was lower the burst transfer rate to ~56MB/sec

    Dual NICs for redundancy, howto?

true... but this will not be for work... actually.. i will probably be playing on the server at 3:00am... ;-) I hope to have remote webmin access or something on the server so it shouldn't be too bad... should be able to fix things from home. In a worse case senerio it can wait till morning...

    Dual NICs for redundancy, howto?

I found out that solaris offers something called alternate pathing, but this is not an automtic fix... ie, the admin must enter in a command to have 1 NIC take over for the other... so i don't see the point of using it when I could just leave 1 NIC's IP address field blank and fill it in with...

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

i guess I have enough computers that it's worth it to me if my CPU's last "past their prime", that way I can upgrade the lower models with my hand me downs.

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

What about migration effects?... these CPUs are going to get fried one way or another if you run them like this.

    Tiny Tower

And I know 60mm fans don't have to be noisey... I'm not even used to the crazy ones they put on HSFs as you suggest. For the same volume of airflow an 80mm fan will be quieter, and more pleasant sounding. This si what I'm saying.

sorry, i meant the CPU... check the pictures... it covers half of the HSF they show.

    Tiny Tower

http://www.yeongyang.com/products/yya105.htm It's just a standard mini/micro-atx tower... only not wide enough to fit a CD-ROM drive sideways. Consequently you need noisey 60mm fans instead of the standard 80mm ones... Another problem is that the CD drive covers the PSU.. meaning you'll...

    Dual NICs for redundancy, howto?

I was wondering if anybody had suggestions on the best way to implement dual NICs for redundancy purposes. I am planning on putting together a Linux server for my counter strike clan. Since I have a lot of 10baseT NICs I was going to put 2 of em in this server for redundancy. I have my choice...

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

a few more platters means this thing falls out of my price range... at 36Gb it's plenty for my OS/App drive... which is right where I want it.

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

i would assume that Vcc_coreMax is the maximum that a motherboard can run the CPU and be AMD aproved... This, i would guess, is based on CPU life and possibly to ensure that the CPU conforms to the spec'd thermal output figures.
  18. blakerwry

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

yes, before i buy another drive i will make sure i listen to a sample... This is why the 800JB now lives in a box in the closet (when I say box, I mean a cardboard thing with 6 sides and no CPU) and my 180GXP is being happily used in my main PC.

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

omg, that was a royal pain in the butt.... that's my big grudge against NT4... if you dont reapply the service pack after any and every system change that involved a file copy then you often get wierd errors that don't correspond to the real problem at all... reinstalling the service pack of...

max voltage for 'b' Thoroughbred Athlon

like cars? My CPU doesn't idle anymore anyway... personally, I think 1.8 is the fastest I'd even test with... 1.7-1.75 is the point where I'd stop. Doesnt the "b" run at 1.60v by default? which models ran at 1.65v?

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

Just out of curiosity I wanted to bench my HDD in UDMA66 mode, but to my surprise, neither WD's or IBM's tool would do the trick to knock the drive down to UDMA mode 4 or 3... not even UDMA mode 2 (although I could do this through cabling) I tried 2 mobos and 3 controllers without success...
