I think it's just the combination of controller you're using and your CPU. You could try running in ata66 mode (I've seen benches that show it uses less CPU time while providing the same benchmark speeds) fot what it's worth, here are read/write benches of both an 800JB and a 1200BB 800JB...

i dont have a window on my case, so i wont be swapping the old one out for the new one... but if I did have a window I would certainly do it. I think it's a nice touch, especially if you already have wrap on most of your wiring.

lol, did you ever realize that a slot A is physically just an upside down slot 1? you can litterally take an athlon and put it in a slot 1 motherboard and vise versa.... (No Tea! I didn't realize you needed IAA to get LBA 48 if you already had SP1 installed... i thought SP1 fixed the problem as long as your hardware supported LBA48. (Am I wrong?)

It's basically just IDE drivers from what I've seen... they improve performance in some areas and break it in others... same old crap... I'd probably just stick with the microsoft drivers that come with windows. The one thing I liked about it is that it allowed you to adjust AAM in windows...

Don't forget that the cheapest p4 Northwood sold on newegg is the 1.8gHz @ ~$142... you can get an AthlonXP 1800+ for ~$65... here a similar performing iNTEL CPU costs double that of the Athlon.

you're correct, the overclocked 2100+ would operate at default with a multiplier of 13.. resulting in 2158mHz when ran on 166mHz FSB.. somewhere inbetween 2600+ and 2700+ (but below the orginal speed of 2800+)

i've read that the kt266, kt266a, kt333, and kt400 as well as nForce2 all support changing multipliers.. but it is of course upto the motherboard manufacturer to implement this feature in the board. if you can't change the multiplier, you can just go right to changing the FSB... going from...
