    Recommendations on USB memory sticks?

Before I moved to SSD's, I used a Maxtor Atlas II 15K and Velociraptor 15GB as boot drives. I still feel that the Velociraptor + ReadyBoost was snappier than without ReadyBoost, on Windows 7 + 4GB.

    CPU fan/heatsink

I've used a number of Zalman coolers, including the 9700. Get a 9700NT with a PWM fan rather than dicking around with the fanmate. Once the fan gets over about 1800 rpm, it's noticeably noisy. You can get better/quieter coolers for the same money. You can't replace the fan. But by the same...

    To iPhone or Not ?

Android has been doing OTA/WiFi updates for ages. I've got an HTC Incredible S and now a work Desire S (basically similar, though a little smaller). The Incredible S is the same size as an iPhone 4 (my wife has one) but thinner. Battery life appears to be on par, but my wife and kids use...

    Best movie you've seen

Took the kids to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes. They liked it, but weren't raving about it. I thought it was very much a join the dots movie. Cliched and stereotyped. Ho-hum.

Dead AMD 3200+, Dead ram, and possibly Power supply

That's probably because even before the Athlon 64 came out, AMD touted it as a feature. Every review of every desktop and server chip I've ever read mentions this fact at least once. The fact it is probably falls into the "common knowledge" category that is so obvious that no one thinks to...

    Mouse 4 notebook

Tried a Logitech trackball - a guy at work uses one, and it has a similar issue as the trackpads - I can't get from edge to edge on the screen without taking my finger of the ball and repeating the scroll movement. On the other hand, I picked up the A4 Tech G7-600NX-1 V-Track Padless Wireless...

    Mouse 4 notebook

Thanks Time. Wireless is fine, and probably desirable. As for size and weight, I prefer lighter mouses, but larger. The first optical Intellimouse was perhaps the most comfortable I've ever used. I've been using a Logitech MK320 and it's OK, but a mouse similar to the wired M90 is too short...

    Mouse 4 notebook

Hi peeps, I need a recommendation for a mouse (or other pointing device) to use with a laptop. I've been using the notebook a lot lately browsing or reading e-books in bed (using a book as a tray to keep the vents clear). Let me just state that trackpads are a medieval torture device. I...

I think you'd be better off with the Athlon + 1GB RAM than the P4 with 768MB. If you go lean and mean (Tiny XP), then load Avast! you should be OK from a RAM use perspective. Avast! appears to be the least resource intensive AV at the moment. I've loaded XP Home and Avast! 5.0 plus a couple...
