So I received my drive from Newegg this past week. The drive in the box is a ST6000DX000. According to this review it's a 7200RPM drive. The read and write speeds are pretty impressive. I don't know why they didn't use a program that measures read and write STR across the whole disk though.

Because I'd have to buy another CPU and use up another Windows license. This i7-2600k works just fine. I went to MicroCenter, picked up a Z77 Extreme4, and have it all working now. Windows no longer thinks its activated, but apparently MS will allow for the replacement of failed mobo since...

So it seems the Gigabyte motherboard in my SandyBridge box decided to die today. It was working fine, I powered it off to swap a drive out of it for testing, and it wouldn't turn back on. The only thing of note that happened during that process is that I touched the case and got a decent shock...

I agree. I don't have it, but from the YouTube video it looks very arduous and time intensive. You can probably make bank that Disney being the money whores they are will likely release the originals if they think there's money to be made. Reportedly Fox loses the distribution rights in 2020.

Of course, the original battery seems to be in decent condition though.

I didn't find the PERC 6i to be problematic. The right bracket was already installed on mine. For cooling all I did was point an 80mm fan at the card. I'm not sure I want to move to Linux as I don't have a lot of experience with it and my "server" box does a lot of other things that I'm not...

RAID-10 seems like it would be as bad if not worse than RAID-5. In RAID-10 (or RAID-1) the best the controller can determine is that the two drives (or arrays) don't agree. It can't tell which is correct. In a non-failed state RAID-5 can detect and correct a drive error due to the parity...

I have two USB3.0 3.0TB Seagate Backup Plus drives that I use for offline backup. I wonder if the failure prone 3TB Seagate drives are in those.

Usually after a merger/acquisition one of the brands lingers around for a little while before being swallowed up. It seems like HGST is in the phase-out portion which is why their HGST logo has "A Western Digital company" under it. They're getting people used to the fact that HGST is WD.

The write ups I read a while back indicated that WD had to "give" the 3.5" drive portion of the business to Toshiba in order for regulators to approve the WD/HGST merger/acquisition. If that's the case I don't think they would be able to keep any portion of HGST's 3.5" drives or designs. That...

For high end computer speakers I really like the Emotiva Pro products. I'm not sure about availability in the southern hemisphere though.

Just remember to run out and buy HGST drives!!! I'll be buying the Toshiba drives though. ;) Hopefully they'll move past 4TB though.

Do your TVs have variable audio output? Or do you need speakers that have remotely controlled volume?
