Uh... I can't tell if you're attempting to troll me or not. There's very little risk / possible downside to getting a mole removed. Glaucoma and cataracts aren't on par with needing glasses / contacts. Glasses and contacts can't fix those. So, you can go blind for sure, or risk ending up...

    Media Player Appliances

What OS do you plan to run on it? It's reportedly capable of 1080p playback from what I've read on the XBMC/Kodi forums (with Raspbmc).

What are you trying to stream (audio, video, format, etc) and do you mean by streaming device? Is it the recipient or the sender?

Not me. I have XBMC/Kodi playing my flac files over SMB shares directly.

    Capture Cards?

I don't see how the product Merc's recommended is going to help you unless it "accidentally" strips HDCP so you could use a HDMI/DVI capture card. If you're looking for analog from an HDMI input (since I'm not sure if the HD Direct TV receiver has component out), as far as I know you need...

I'm pretty sure that converts component to HDMI, not the other way around.

I personally wouldn't do it, but that's just me. You're going to thin the paint on the car, perhaps considerably if the orange peel is bad.

question RDP patch broken in Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 by Windows Update?

Has anyone else had an issue where they can no longer RDP into a patched (hacked) Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 box? I can't RDP into my HTPC any more which runs Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I've been using the concurrent logon patch from missing remote. It's worked for years up until the last...

It's also quite a bit more money. Maybe Asus will release their own 7" Nexus (2013) successor tablet instead.

problem Laptop puked, decrypted the drive (PGP), now have 2 RAW partitions

Eh, doesn't matter now. The drive is more or less dead. I tried running TestDisk on it last night and around the 90% mark of the scan the drive stopped responding and it's basically dead now. I'm traveling on Monday and need to give several days of training. I knew my companies IT people...

problem Laptop puked, decrypted the drive (PGP), now have 2 RAW partitions

So my work Lenovo sort of died today. It locked up and after forcing it off and turning it back on it got stuck in a BSOD boot loop (even safe mode). Something about an Unmountable Boot Volume. I downloaded the rescue .iso from symantec for PGP 10.2 MP4 and decrypted the drive successfully...

    Music

Sometimes it pays to do a little Googling when you're music shopping... I wanted these two albums (#1 & #2). They're limited edition (only 2000 made) and apparently the supply dried up a while back causing prices to rise. They're equally expensive on ebay. However, the record company that...

    Disk Controllers with 3TB support

Did anyone ever try the Dell H700 PERC cards? Reportedly they removed the firmware block on non Dell drives several years back. I'm beginning to think about updating my server and I will need drives larger than 2TB. I'd like RAID-6. I see H700's for around $100 on ebay. The 5i cards were...

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. I read a 1400+ post thread on AVSforum about it, and it seems much too early to draw any conclusions other than the 55" is an IPS panel not suited for dark room viewing.

I agree there's a lack of information. Since you're not counting on APR for a future warranty there's not a lot of risk from your side.

Anyone using Block access for USEnet? I've been paying monthly, and it seems like I could save a fair bit moving to the pre-paid "block" model.

    question Which Tablets

A 9" 2048x1440 display is low DPI? I'm a little more puzzled by the odd aspect ratio (if that resolution is correct). The rumors I saw at The Inquirer said 2560x1600.

FWIW, it sounds like you may have gotten a partial regurgitation of some APR distributed talking points.

    Asus boards and AHCI mode

Doesn't that break any RAID array too? I seem to recall that switching from RAID/AHCI to IDE would cause the RAID arrays to be lost when you switched it back to RAID/AHCI. I stopped buying Asus boards some time back. I haven't seen that with the Gigabyte or Asrock boards I've bought.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

Interesting... I checked it out for a few minutes on my tablet. The graphics stream was smooth. A little blocky at times, but decent. PC games certainly have improved their graphics since I was playing them in college 15 years ago.
