...and done. Replacement part just arrived. According to the package tracking, it was about 30 minutes between them receiving my old CPU and them shipping the new one to me. My guess is there was to testing or troubleshooting, they just wanted to confirm that I shipped them a valid part.

The new hardware design of the 5090 (and possibly others in the lineup) looks very interesting. I'm curious to see what the waterblocks end up looking like for this card, it might get very compact. https://nordic.ign.com/news/90277/the-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5090-is-finally-here-at-ces-2025

    Intel RMA procedure

Friendly tip. When building an Intel system, take a picture of the top of the CPU and file it away. If you ever have to do an RMA, they might not even begin the troubleshooting process without that picture. I didn't want to take the computer apart until I got the new CPU (It was working well...

    Intel RMA procedure

I appreciate the feedback and the tip, that is worth consideration. I was actually thinking of an Intel CPU for this motherboard that would become my home server once I get the AMD thing going. Not sure if I'd keep a 13900KF in my server or pass it along and get something more power efficient.

    Intel RMA procedure

I'm lazy, but this CPU is past it even for me. Won't boot 20% of the time, won't stay stable long enough to complete a Windows reinstall, won't stay stable on a Linux boot USB while web browsing longer than an hour, BSODs every 4 hours, and crashes Chrome every 30 minutes. And all that is after...

Dev work and management seem to be more forgiving of age than IT itself. Sure I was looking in a different market, but I feel the perception is similar. My buddy and former business partner (the dev) has been turning down work, where I had to found my own company to get a job.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

Reading your post inspired me to go see what the price here has done. It went up in the middle of this year. And it seems they learned from the cable TV industry years ago. I only want Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator, but the cheapest way of getting that is paying for everything.

If fan speed is spiking that quickly, it needs to be firmware or software driven, no thermocouple would register in time.

    Video Cards

Do you think it is spinning up the fans as a result of actual temp increase, or preventatively based on load and some built-in table? If the former, it might be easiest to just add some thermal mass to hold off the ramp? If the latter I'd experiment with just disconnecting the fan and see if it...

An offline MP3 player in 2024?

Thanks for that Merc, but I'm specifically looking for something that doesn't have any of that. No internet capabilities, no downloading or network connectivity. I don't want to have to monitor or police it at all. I'll just transcode her content to MP3, copy them to the local storage of her...

My daughter has limits on screen time, and she hasn't demonstrated enough control to regulate it on her own. How to setup video call capability on Windows 11?
