Nvidia’s GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 revealed: Faster than Titan X at half the price

One of the reasons I run a water cooling setup is that it discourages buying every conceivable upgrade instantly. Perhaps by the time my Rift arrives (still no ETA!?!?) they'll have a new top-end card that will allow me to go single-GPU.

    4k TVs and Monitors

The stand it ships with uses the 200mm set, there are threaded holes for a 100mm mount, but did I mention this thing is big? 3840x2160@60Hz via DP straight out of the box. Working great. Not a significant amount of glow/bleed. Color is a little off, but I can't say how much. When I bring the...

    4k TVs and Monitors

This is a big monitor. I've used a 42" 1080P TV as a monitor before, but this seems larger for some reason. Build quality seems great, the cables that ship with it are awesome. It does have a VESA mount, but it is a larger format (200x200? didn't check). Left to right: Dell 30", Dell 27"...

One of the things I love about Marian Hill is that it rewards repeat listening and stands up to intense scrutiny. The best sound system you have at the highest volume settings and it just sounds cleaner. This is not common in this genre. Her latest track, Marian Hill - Down, is probably the...

    Proposed NAS build

As you've said, there are great advantages to using vendor drives. IMHO, they are not worth it in any kind of storage rig. If all you are getting is half a dozen SSDs then pay their crazy cost and don't worry. For a storage appliance (10 drives+) the cost gets crazy and not getting 10TB drives...

I see it as more of a lack of structure and leadership within the GOP. Trump was not the best horse in their glue factory, and his nomination has significantly hurt not only their run for president but many congressional seats as well. Politicians running for lower positions can usually raise...

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

This isn't the first time I've heard a company make this statement. I never retain original packaging. Normally I'll have a local professional service put together the box/protection and ship it anyway. I've never had it rejected if the packaging was sufficient.

I'm sure I'm losing something using the Creative X-Fi HD as the DAC, but it doesn't have those issues. Now that my keyboard has a good volume control on it (daskeyboard Pro 4) I don't need the soundcard to be external or within reach. How much am I missing not going to something impressively...

The first gen 32" 4k I bought also wasn't an Ultrasharp. I could attribute it to cautiousness concerning a 1st generation product and not wanting to damage the Ultrasharp brand, but it is more likely that the monitor doesn't meet some technical specification (inputs or whatever).

That'll have to be the next set. With the current power levels traction control has fits when I floor it from a standstill, so I pretty much always drive with TC off. This gives my car a significant appetite for tires.

Partially the off-roading, but also the NVH scores are considerably better and traction not much worse. The DWS seems to just be a much better rated tire. Doesn't hurt that they are cheaper.

I recently put the 5th set of Conti DWS on my car, 109k miles now. The main reason I went with APR was that the local guy who did APR tunes was nice and knowledgeable. I don't think any of the tuners do rocket science or that their parts are exceptionally shiny.

Intel lays off 10% of its workforce

I don't mean to break out the "640k should be enough" argument, but we are reaching a point where there are fewer and fewer applications that would benefit from significant increases in computational performance or storage density. As the cost rises and the number of potential...

    problem neighbour keeps stealing wifi

Just change the default gateway to take it off the internet. See if your bandwidth issues go away. If that is indeed the culprit, there is a way to re-install the OS without losing your data (of course, you should have a backup somewhere anyway).
