    Server 2012 R2 Fileserver with Auto-Tiering

The higher-end Synology boxes support SSDs for caching, you don't think that will be enough? 2*800 + 4*1800 = 8.8TB. You might be able to go with fewer features but a solid block of SSDs (not the DC Pro, but many others could be had for <$10k).

Similar. Most importantly they have enough drives to provide legit aggregate data (as opposed to the anecdotes that we can offer).

I found your next avatar. These systems are capable of identifying other cars and specifically excluding them from the beam. Having a hard time figuring out how this could be any more obnoxious than even old-fashioned headlights.

The other consideration is the size of the heatsink you plan to fit in there. Many of the newer designs are huge.

    DC replacement for small business

For companies below 6 users with little turnover, I've gotten rid of centrally managed anything. NAS usernames and passwords are managed independently of workstations. More complex solutions simply aren't worth it if they only have one or two staff changes a year.

As stated previously, I'm 100% happy with the ASUS options. The X99 Deluxe I have at home has one M2 port on the motherboard and includes a PCIe card that will hold another one. It has tons of overclocking features (that I've only dabbled in) and everything has just worked in Win8.1.

I was just having this discussion with my boss the other week. IMO, there are two definitions to the phrase "protect our data". 1. We will always have access to our data, and will not lose access to anything. 2. No one else will gain access to our data, corporate secrets are safe. 1 is easy...

Yup. I've just started riding again after about 7 months off the bike. If I can loose 20lbs and gain 15% power I should be able to pull it off. Perhaps March? I've made the decision to not ride the bike without a 50lb trailer until the racing season starts again, should provide quite the mental...

Intel Haswell-E (X-99 chipset) processors reviews.

I've hated ASUS boards for over a decade; every time I was burned by something stupid and have sworn them off for at least a year. However, the two X99 systems I've built have both run ASUS boards and I've been really impressed. Useful features, great stability, no comparability issues (even...

Tried one of the steep but short climbs with a loaded trailer today. 34 ring, 32 on the cassette, 4mph, 400w, 200bpm, probably 60 rpm. That was a big world of pain. I normally put out 400w on that climb, but it is normally over in 90 seconds. This took 6 minutes. My eventual goal is to be...

A $1k budget is really the bare minimum entry IMHO. It will get you a third-tier body with a kit lens or a third-tier lens. I'd recommend a 60D with the 18-135. I prefer second-tier bodies and top-end glass, but even $2k might be a stretch for that. 6D with the 24-105 kit lens is currently...

SSDs - State of the Product?
