[NEWS] - Prescott to dissipate over 100W

The current limitation regarding cooling on todays system is just the lack of a proper form factor. Or should I say, compatibility issues. If you have a custom designed system that doesn't need to retain compatibility with various third party hardware and adhere to ATX standards, an entire...

Vantec stealth are actually rebadged NMB 3110KL-B10's NMB makes the smoothest bearings I've ever seen on any DC fan, and they should do to, making turbine bearings and bullet train bearings ;)

    New toys

I take it you meant Panaflo? Unfortunately they don't make the L1A with a tacho output, but they do have one with a locked rotor signal. Unless you really care about the RPMs you're running at. In which case get the M1A with tacho and 7v wire it.

    New toys

If you want a better fan (more powerful, lower noise) try a Panaflo L1A. Rated at 21dB, 24CFM but I can assure you the Papst ratings are optimistic, and their 80mm line of fans suck big time (vibration). Might not help with the overclock but its definately a more powerful and quieter fan largely...

    Enlight Cases Still Good?

Cheaper PSUs can be damaged, the better ones simply heat up more as you're sending current back up the 5v line etc. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=4260&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

    Frickin' techie miracle

Although I didn't expect this to work with PCI cards, I do routinely hotswap my CDRW drive from one machine to another without a hitch. Only thing needed to do was to "scan for hardware changes" in device manager.

    Best Passively Cooled Video Card

Most R9000s are passive cooled and offer decent performance. I use the ZM80 heatsink (different to ZM80-A which is 30% larger) on my LeadTek GF4 Ti4200 and never had any problems with it. Runs reasonabl cool, I expect the ZM80-A would be significantly better.

Hi, I have a client who is trying to get his AOL connection to work with 2 machines which are hooked up using two NICs and crossover. Some people report it can be done, others that it cannot - ICS cannot be enabled as the AOL software dials up. Meanwhile he has a 12 month contract with AOL...

The bracket screws on to the case using the holes that hold the PCI cards in place. You put in your PCI cards, then put the fan bracket on top, and pass the screw through all of them. It is held very firmly in place. Furthermore you can use the bracket to hang another fan of any size (case...

    fanless computer design

Sure, the result won't be the prettiest or most elegant, but it can be done, and the bottom line is, us silent people are after solutions, not price or looks. This is the reason I buy 80mm Panaflo L1A for £4 in 500qty and manage to resell them for £15 each ;) Papst 4312 for £7.60 each and...

    Anybody ever been broken into?

Had cars broken into so many times now my insurance is too damn high. Three times total, each time it was for the stereo, on all occasions the car was alarmed and the front panel for the stereo was detatched. Last time I caught him red handed and chased him down the street but damn those...

    Intel Retail HSF Spec

Keep the heatsinks, detach the fans and use a Zalman FB123 http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/fb123.htm This way you can hang the 92mm fan above both (if it doesn't cover both CPUs then use a 120mm fan), and have it turned down (~20dB) with the included resistor. This should give more...

    Not your Father's Cadillac

Some times a -very- short geared car doesn't feel that fast. A friend has a 518, the old 1991 model. Of course, something with just over 100hp in something that size won't be fast, around 13s to 60 is the spec IIRC, but it definately felt slower - 1st topped out at something like 10mph. It...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

Don't compare them, German cars have positively solid build quality... even if the mechanicals aren't up there with Japanese cars, their interiors are always better screwed together and of better materials than anyone else IMO. Japanese cars use plastics that could have been from recycled...

Upcoming FIC and EPoX nForce2 on't share same design.

Interesting that they use a heatsink on the SPP... the one on my A7N8X gets hot enough to burn, yet has no heatsink on it. I've been meaning to Arctic Silver epoxy a little ramsink onto it as I have one that perfectly matches its size but haven't got round to it (and probably never will...)

honold, you urgently need to lower the suspension an inch or two... it looks like you could loose a small kid under the arches :P Are those tyres standard issue? In Europe, the Jetta (Bora as its called) and Golfs come with balloon-profile tyres. Mucks up the handling

[NEWS] - Intel invents overclock deterrent method

Although I'm sure it protects the core, I'm not sure it helps at all with the heat transfer. Its still the same area for the heat to pass through (core -> IHS), but with a heat spreader you have two separate interfaces for the heat to pass through.

    Fans, fans, fans

Just to chime in - Sunon's 60mm Vapo-Bearing fans are pretty much free of any sort of bearing noise. There Zalman compact flower (5100 series) uses them, and they make very little noise when spinning, compared to sleeve and ball bearing fans I've seen. I assume its some sort of fluid bearing...

I didn't write this properly, what I meant was that it would take 3-4 years of average driving to save enough fuel money to offset the increased cost. BTW... that car I rented did 75mpg @ 50mph. Now thats fuel economy!

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

They have a narrow power band, so you have to change up quickly compared to a petrol engine, in order to stay in the power band - power drops off suddenly in a diesel. Also, they are unrefined compared to petrol engines especially when cold, but the latest diesels are pretty good in that respect...

Having good low down torque is a plus in city traffic. Don't need to mess with the gears that much. Turbo-diesels are good for that ;)
