Well it's quicker than walking to school. 3 minute ride versus 10 minute walk. The sidewalks are plowed with a little v-plow, so it's usually OK. If it's raining one of us will drive him.

I got my eldest a mountain bike, 24" tires, 21 speeds is a little too much for him to get his head around so I've got it in 2nd on the 3 cog and then he has 1-7 on the back cog. The instruction manual actually has a list of gears that aren't recommended (the one's furthest apart). Too hard to...

Sorry, inside/outside won't matter. If you plug the power adaptor that goes to the battery pack into a UPS that should boost your runtimes. It won't know the power is out till your UPS drains.

Memory Node Interleaving - enable or disable?

Late reply here too, the IBM X series servers I've used with the 5160 type Xeons have an option to use a spare bank of memory as a hot spare, in addition to some kind of RAID type setting IIRC. That's what I always went with, integrity over ultimate speed, there were available slots, in the...

SSDs - State of the Product?

From what I gather, he's reformatting to regain drive performance after heavy writes cause performance to hit the shitter? The big downside I see to the SSD currently is that it is a variable speed device, that degrades with use. A finite life if you will.

"The SF-2600 ships with the external SAS bridge and a special firmware revision to enable support for non-512B sectors." Looks like what you want for a SAS 6 RAID controller. Intel are still implementing it in future logic chipsets, aka way behind the 8 ball.

Only problem I see is most(all) hardware RAID cards seem to top out at around 800MB/sec or so, limited by the controller chip. I haven't seen one deliver 2GB+/sec. It's been a while tho. SSDs - State of the Product?

SATA 6Gb/s would top out at 600MB/sec, which this seems to be able to far exceed. A RAID 10 of 4 100GB drives would be delivering 1.2-1.6 GByte/sec of storage. I wouldn't try and run a hospital on one, but it seems to be the state of the art in pure speed/IOPS.
