    Cold

I'd need to get a larger one to sleep in. Cold I can handle, heat is tolerable, but humidity is crippling. When I last went through that part of the world I could never get a full nights sleep. I remember taking a shower, lying under the ceiling fan that was over the bed, and never getting dry...

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

That MiniDSP does look like the secret sauce I'm after, no? I'm hesitant to deal with the waiting and ordering process for that Audio-gd unit; how much would I be losing by getting something from Amazon or Newegg? I've been doing some research on USB DACs, but they all say something stupid...

    Even better audio from a laptop v. Audio-gd NFB-15.1 + Emotiva Pro Airmotiv 4

The motherboard does have optical out, so that isn't too big a deal. What is crazy is the pricing of things as we talk about this, not to mention the space it would take up. All I'm looking for is a couple DACs and a low (maybe high) pass filter, no? If I just got some splitters off my sound...

That USB soundcard will probably be going somewhere else. First time I've even heard of a Pre/Pro. So I should be looking at a cheaper version of this?

Thanks for reminding me about the Klipsch, my memory is even worse with a fever. If I were to keep using the USB soundcard I should just get some RCA splitters to come off the speaker channels? If I wanted to look at something better suited what would you recommend?

    Remote Control Aircraft

I've been running the Futaba controller with my computer using the simulator called Aerofly Professional Deluxe. I still can't fly from an on-the-ground perspective, but FPV is no problem. Once I bring my solder station home I can make the harness to charge the batteries and test the FPV camera...

    RouterBoard/Mikrotik config issue

Nope. But better to learn here than at work. I can learn and test out the bits that I need, and then deploy them elsewhere. I've been using Smoothwall for a long time, but decided to try something more powerful and less user friendly. A good opportunity to learn more about routing.

    RouterBoard/Mikrotik config issue

Bingo. The External port could get out, but I hadn't told the internal ports how to get to the external port. Thanks! This thing is badass; dual 1Ghz CPUs, 2GB RAM, 13 Gigabit ports, 1 million PPS.

I figured that is where this would be going. Sticking with off-the-shelf stuff, what should I be looking at? Something that has an adjustable cutoff to match the speakers I assume? Perhaps the mid/low-20s is a reasonable floor?

    RouterBoard/Mikrotik config issue

This is the most hardcore router programming I've ever attempted. Of course, I hadn't planned on doing it tonight, but the only other router in the house took a dump earlier. So far I've done the following: I've set up a bridge of all the ports except port 12. I've assigned that bridge the IP...

That worked. After converting the FLAC to WAV and running it through, there seems to be relevant data to 8hz. Crap. I know I'm not going that low, what is a realistic expectation? Volume is nearly irrelevant, quality and range are what I care about. Maybe $500 cap?

Interesting. I was on the Emotiva website and the 5 and 6 are listed, but not the 4. That is only on the EmotivaPro website. Strange marketing. Yeah, I was kidding, it doesn't transfer correctly when I'm sick. It would be interesting to somehow analyze the music I'm listening to and find what...

    Remote Control Aircraft

I've had small helicopters for a while, and I even had a 450 full-aero helicopter that I was never able to keep off the ground for more than a minute before crashing. Looking for a sub to go with the Emotiva 4s. I don't need more power, just lower frequencies than they can hit. The example that highlighted this most so far is "Natural Self - In the Morning". Baseline has a nice progression, and some of the notes are just...gone. Something that matches the...

    Beverages

Interesting that they gave you the one famous for being the most "acquired" of tastes. I've drank bottles of Scotch, and I am far from acquiring said taste. The tasting notes I remember are smoked fish, peat, bonfire smoke, and oak-iness. Near $750 a bottle, IIRC.

So you would keep the scripts on a thumbdrive? For the most part these are computers I'm touching for the first time, and don't have anything on them. At the moment I'm going to the desktop, opening the folder explorer, using that to get to the standard control panel, and getting to network...

I'm supportive of the project, but they still have a long way to go. It annoys me that they do a cut after the thing falls/rolls; I would have felt much better if the camera had kept rolling and it just stood back up.

Re-read the gizmodo piece, and I don't think there are any real arguments there. Many of his sentances could refer to any upgrade in medium, including from books to radio or radio to movies. Yes, it is harder to make because you are showing a more complete story. Yes, the presentation itself is...

10FPS would suck, 24 is better, I see no reason to believe more isn't better in this metric. All the arguments seem to be couched in "what has been done before".

    Pagefile and SSDs

The other point with regards to SSDs and writes is whether the pagefile sees any action if you have enough RAM. It might never be accessed even if you leave it at default settings. In either case, SSDs have a high enough write limit for that to be a non-issue.

Larger HDD to smaller SSD questions

Glad that worked out for you Azjazz. Now that SSDs are getting cheap enough per GB we can finally get HDDs out of the system entirely in some cases. That makes life much simpler.
