You need a dual-link DVI connection to run at 2560*1600 on the 30" screens (Dell and Apple). Single connector, but uses all the pins. Mark, you may want to consider the Dell 2407 (1920*1200 in 24"). More rez "on the sides". And it works fine at 1920*1200 on VGA if you don't have DVI.

You should be fine, just leave the battery at work, and use the laptop with the AC adaptor.

Guess my InsiPorn 8200 makes the good battery list :)

RAW conversion is definitely CPU bound. I haven't seen any benchmarks of Core 2 Duo with RAW conversion yet. It would be hard to imagine that even the mid level Duos wouldn't outpace the 3.6 and 3.8 GHz Pee4s. And with a little overclocking, you should have a nice performance gap from yesterdays...

I don't think AMD have anything up their sleeve, until K8L comes out. The switch to DDR2 has delivered almost nothing. They are going to have to maintain share by cutting prices.

How long does it need to run for? As Sol suggests, a gas powered or 12V fridge would be best, otherwise look at a petrol generator (which is prob going to be more than CAN$400).

And switching to DDR2 seems to have only given AMD ~5% performance boost in most cases. Interesting times ahead. They will really need to pull something out of the hat later on this year.
