AM2 - Let the Games Begin

Interesting you mention that, we have twelve Dell 20" 2001FP screens at the monitoring console, and the ones that are running Windows are inevitably set to 1024*768. The older operators just can't read the screen when it's set to 1600*1200. I just switch it to UXGA on my shift, and set it back...

AM2 - Let the Games Begin

You need a dual-link DVI connection to run at 2560*1600 on the 30" screens (Dell and Apple). Single connector, but uses all the pins. Mark, you may want to consider the Dell 2407 (1920*1200 in 24"). More rez "on the sides". And it works fine at 1920*1200 on VGA if you don't have DVI.

I just installed a new cutter/foil on my Braun 7680 series shaver (around 2.5 years old now, had a hole in the foil), and a happy surprise is that it uses the new "honeycomb" foil design from the newer Activator series. It's like a brand new shaver again, and cost about $20 from Amazon. Works on...

You Make The Call: Is It Grounded?

You might want to try using a plug-in tester (the ones that light up different colours depending on what is wrong), I don't know if a UPS is going to tell you if the socket is hooked up backwards, etc. Sounds like some quality "home improvement" went on there. Other than that, make sure you are...

http://anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808&p=1 Core 2 Duo vs Core Duo performance comparison. Looks like 10-20% improvement in many multimedia apps, unfortunately maximum performance is crippled by use of a 667MHz bus.

A radar detector was one of the first purchases I made in the USA, in most states of Australia if the cops find you with one, they'll suspend your license, confiscate your detector and give you a hefty fine. I believe it was a cheap Bel model. Hopefully you don't have too many officers using...

    Intel strikes back

RAW conversion is definitely CPU bound. I haven't seen any benchmarks of Core 2 Duo with RAW conversion yet. It would be hard to imagine that even the mid level Duos wouldn't outpace the 3.6 and 3.8 GHz Pee4s. And with a little overclocking, you should have a nice performance gap from yesterdays...

Oh yeah, if/when taking guns out of Aus, make sure you get a permit to export from your local customs office, it's pretty simple, they will stamp your two copies, you then use that in conjunction with your gun registration paperwork when re-entering Australia (go thru the Red channel).

Rochester, NY. It's in a datacenter, so cooling isn't too much of an issue. Bigger problem is the power density, i.e. for this machine we have three 240V 30Amp runs (three PSUs). At a certain stage you just run out of available power.

I've seen that in action at a trade show in Florida. Pretty impressive. However the cost of the "ink" that it uses is pretty expensive (they had a copy of a PS2 controller, came to about $300-$400 in materials). It's mostly for rapid prototyping usage.
