    New car ScionTC

Very nice, wanna trade for an Elantra? It doesn't let water in when the boot is open.... On a fuel economy note, I recently got 38mpg on a longish highway/hills trip. I'm trying to figure out whether it was because of the highway miles, or because it was half-full of premium unleaded which I...

Oooh, an international virgin. Make sure you sign up with whichever carrier you are flying with, you should net close to 20,000 miles for the trip. From PHL you will prob get to LAX via Atlanta or Charlotte. Enjoy the free booze on-board.

If leaving from LAX then flight time to AKL is around 13 hours. LAX-SYD is around 15 hours. I don't know how much time you have for your training, but Orbitz has an intinery where you fly Qantas from LAX->SYD, arriving early morning, then fly SYD->AKL two days later (in the morning). On the...

Talking of beer in NZ, it was the only place I was ever asked for ID (apart from the USA nowadays, where some establishments ask anyone for ID - yes that includes grannies in their 60's-70s. Not much common-sense around here :) Time: you definitely shouldn't try the 17 hour non-stop Singapore...

Move Outlook from one PC to another

How many email accounts do you have in Outlook 2000? Shouldn't take long to re-enter them in 2003. All the email folder structures, calendars etc are in the .pst file. Only think that may be bastard to re-enter would be if you have a ton of message rules.

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-day22.html WASHINGTON -- When people go through the ritual of moving their clocks forward each spring ushering in daylight-saving time, they're also saving energy -- the equivalent of thousands of barrels of oil, in fact. Congress says a good thing...

Auckland is a nice city. They have a casino, and then a big tower to try and jump off when you lose the shirt on your back. (Actually the viewing room is enclosed so no leaping, big thick clear floor panels to give you a little vertigo). Went to the casino there once, put down $5 bucks on 36...

Most worthless 600 video card of all time...

I spent around $500 bucks on a video card once, a Viper PCI video card, cutting edge 2MB VRAM and the new-fandangled PCI bus. Made my Pentium66 with FuzzyMath(tm) scream.

Anyone tried the new DVD dual layers? Reports, comments?

There is a freeware utility that can decode the manufacturer code that is embedded in each DVD/CD. Be aware that some unscrupulous manufacturers forge a more reputable code on their shoddy product.

    DVD encoding stuff...

Just make sure you keep the HT bus at 1GHz or less (i.e. drop down the HT multiplier when OCing the FSB). When running at 250Mhz, I have to drop the HT to 4x (from normal 5x). Over 250, down to 3x.

    DVD encoding stuff...

Mobile only has the one memory channel, going from 1.8 to 2.2 939 pin probably won't be enough. OC that 1.8 to 2.4 and beyond.

Newegg doesn't appear to even sell the 3500 anymore. Enjoy the benefits of high volume product :) We have a bunch of 3520's at work, flawless. Wish the same could be said for the POS Sony 4x burner, it can burn CDs but pukes on DVDs. Straight in the garbage bin is where it is destined.

GM Pulls Ads From L.A. Times

Even the Ford 500 gets 203HP from a decades old 3 litre engine (using that cutting edge 4 valve per cylinder tech) And they had the decency to mate it to a 6 speed auto or CVT. I'm surprised GM hasn't looked at using the Holden Commodore platform from Aus, instead of the more...

    Photography Advice

There are certainly some very dodgy grey market camera stores in NYC. Make sure you check reselleratings.com for their dubious reputation. Mostly stuff like you can get a camera really cheap, but the charger etc is extra! And if you decide you do only want the camera, it is suddenly no longer in...

Gaming system: does hte CPU matter anymore?

I'm using: MSI K8 Neo2 Platinum mobo 2*512MB Crucial Ballistix DDR ThermalTake Tower 112 (f'ing huge, but a smaller cooler should also work fine. If I was changing anything now, I would probably go with the K8 Diamond board (the one with PCI-Express slots). And also switch ram to OCZ or similar.

    W2003 Server SP1 released

Yeah I was thinking of the x86-64 bit version. The Titanic version holds little interest I'm sure. It'll be good to get the final release of XP Pro 64 bit, our image processing app really chokes on the 2GB or 3GB memory limit per process in XP 32 bit land.
