Indeed, Cougtek. And I am anticipating building a chassis for the light as well eventually, but I haven't done any CAD work since high school, and I wasn't paying attention even then. It may take a long time before I can design anything that complex. Having the battery and light combined makes...

CS4/5 is required before any GPU acceleration would be used, but any of the new-ish cards can participate. That 7900GS would be fine. 16GB of RAM is a no-brainer, super simple choice. She absolutely needs an SSD. If you don't want Sandforce take a look at the new Intel 3xx series. They are...

    Portable printer for an iPad?

As the title says. As portable a printer as possible that can still do 8.5x11 (preferably 8.5x14), preferably color, preferably wireless. Price isn't really an issue. I don't have an iPad to play with at the moment, so I don't know if there are any special requirements. Thanks!

Almost had a deer run into me tonight on my bike (12:25AM and I just got back). Saw the eyes in the brush, but I was going too fast (27+mph) to do much about it. I just picked my line and it turned out well.

Idea: Mounting Rail for Bicycle Stem

I'm almost done with the prototype design, and will have emachineshop.com knock out a few for me. This idea of designing something on the computer and having it physically produced is pretty thrilling to me for some reason. The revised design has enough of a foot on it that it could be epoxied...

Idea: Mounting Rail for Bicycle Stem

Permanent changes to a $45 part? I'm not worried about it. Clamps are crap; they usually don't fit well, are bulky, and are a PITA to put on and take off because any position adjustments are lost. Instead of welding, drilling and epoxy could be used; I'm not the metal smith. Perhaps have a new...

Idea: Mounting Rail for Bicycle Stem

Thanks guys. I was first planning on mounting the rail the usual way, with a conforming partial tube under the rail secured with zip-ties (note the smaller holes on the bottom of the rail). For the stem I'm actually envisioning a single plate that passes through a slot and is both the top and...

Idea: Mounting Rail for Bicycle Stem

I'm tired of mounting stuff onto tubes with zip-ties; it isn't the right way to do things. The fit is poor, the appearance is clunky, and it is never that secure. My thought is to weld mounting rails to the top and bottom of the bicycle stem, allowing secure mounting of a computer (in my case a...

A pair of 130W i7s, a pair of GTX580s, and a dozen 3TB hard drives at max load produce closer to 800W, even if I don't go crazy and water cool the power supplies, Onkyo Receiver, PS3, or UPS ;) That is all the heat I would need for the house, and it would be nice to get the (much lower) heat...

The design I've been working on includes three different loops terminating in the same reservoir. 1. Home 1 2. Home 2 3. Cooling loop This way each of the machines gets a more traditional CPU cooling loop that just dumps into and draws from a large reservoir. I then use something more...

There is some justification. We run consumer-level gear in servers, so I like to have as long a burn-in time as possible. Annoyance of the day - ATM charge for usage

In addition to the mortgage, one of the cars isn't paid off. That is at 1.9%, and is on a short enough term (3yrs) and a large enough down payment ($10k) that the value of the car will never be less than what is owed - still technically an asset.

JTR, How difficult would it be to incorporate a basic taillight into that battery pack? 5-10 surface mount red LEDs oriented in a 3" line on the narrowest board possible, with the smallest wire possible back to the battery pack? Yeah, I don't think I need that level of complexity. At the moment I have the VMs on one ESX server backing up to the other ESX servers, so a once-every-three-years hardware failure simply means firing up the backup that already exists on the other server. It isn't automated, and there is...
