    Macbook Pro first impressions

Also, here's an amusing find I came across while digging up that other stuff -- you can mod the older mini PCIe based SSDs into mSATA SSDs : http://www.thejoojooforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=776&p=4961 I guess that it would be useful for those trying step up to an SSD on the cheap and/or...

Okay, some follow up. I was remembering correctly that there were some problems. But I'm still not certain about whether a whitelist is in effect or not for the varying laptops. See for yourselves if you wish: intel 310 in x220 and W520 issues: -...

3 years is just too long for WD

Yeah, pretty sad. One of the things I get a chuckle out of the whole impact that the Thai floods have had on the HDD market is that I remember Mickey (WD) say, several years ago on SR, that they had a measure of redundancy built into their platter supply chain. hehe -- looks like everyone's...

    question Clone a system drive

Why you! (shakes fist wildly in air at Intel) For the record, I clone my / and /home partitions on my SSD to a mechanical drive for backup purposes using gparted. Nice an easy. I do recall running into a partition size mismatch after I first started doing this -- I believe I changed around...

    Macbook Pro first impressions

The Lenovo whitelist issue definitely still applies to WLAN and WWAN cards. I don't know whether they are doing the same with the mSATA SSDs. I tend to think they aren't, because I have seen posts from users using Renice cards etc. Though, I also seem to recall that users initially had a...

its mSATA cause the mini PCIe slot they plug into has to be "special" (i.e. not any old min PCIe slot will do, it has to be able to support mSATA signaling) ... and currently I don't think too many laptop manufacturers opt for that Samsung just announced the introduction of more (...

Annoyance of the day - ATM charge for usage

BMO has a large presence in the mid-west, operating under Harris Bank. They purchased someone else not that long ago (don't remember whom), and I believe they are going to rebrand all US ops under a BMO Harris moniker. Off the top of my head, I don't think Scotia has any US presence ... they...

question PC may have died-need some feedback on MB/CPU/RAM

Sounds a lot like an issue I had with an A64 (Via based chipset?) system a couple of year's ago. After troubleshooting as best I could with that, my guess then was that its a capacitance issue with the video card ... Best clue to that conclusion was that I could generate the reboot quickest...

    ViDock and/or DIY eGPU

From what I saw in ViDock user reports (which obviously encounter similarly constrained usage scenarios), they seem to indicate that they achieve 50-70% of a card's expected performance under normal usage conditions (i.e. stuck into a x16 slot). Anyway, here is an interesting tangentially...

I had seen mention of ViDock before on a number of occasions, but, for whatever reason, had never really checked it out ...either that, or, it never register with me what it was for (I probably just thought it was an external harddrive enclosure or something). Anyway, was checking the stuff...

Looks like the aforementioned issues were all due to de-installation errors and/or built-up system crud. After running ccleaner (thanks Bozo) in safe mode, the system works as expected again. Just some further notes for posterity: - I had mentioned javascript and Bozo mentioned java...no...

Timing of building a new system

I formally observed it on a Gigabyte AMD 785 board and it was indeed related to storage detection...IIRC, the solution was to not use cable select on PATA devices, but, rather, jumper them accordingly as master and slave. SATA devices didn't seem to have any impact on the problem.

    Lenovo Thinkpads

hmm, I think I may have just contradicted myself in the other thread*. Sucks to see that on the T...

Are there any Issues with Lenovo B560?

I can vouche for the L412 -- good build, nice machines (especially like the docking availability). Well, that's what I was thinking for the past year or so, but once you rebooted the server, it became a speed demon again. I just don't know how highly coincidental the two events could be. yep, no one seemed to report the same problem I had been observing over that year and a half, so I was...

Apparently so ... I don't think I've ever seen a 1394b port/connector, so I wouldn't have known offhand, but the point is fair, as it is certainly a reasonable assumption that they would differ from the older one I have no idea.

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

Personally, I think the only draw back on the Lenovo T's is the screen quality -- for the price, it would be nice to get a higher quality display. Nonetheless, the Tx10s, are very nice. End of the World As We Know It

to be clear, the above obviously applies to a forex based carry trade. ... a carry type trade, in of itself, need not be forex based.
