You may want to try folding with the Chrome NaCl client. http://folding.stanford.edu/nacl/ or https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/foldinghome/hmnbjdgjgikbkapaolimfoidihobnofo?hl=en-US
I run it on my work laptop when it's at home and out of the bag. It's a Dell Precision with a quad core i7 (hyperthreaded) and 32GB of memory. Hasn't been a problem over the last 10 months or so. It also only needs to last 3 years when it will be replaced.
I bought one of the Korean IPS 2560x1440 monitors from MicroCenter a couple years ago. I've been happy with it. I don't think MicroCenter stocks them anymore, but you can find them on eBay and probably Amazon as well.
I got a HP Chromebook 14 for my Dad. His 5 year old Lenovo had numerous problems that I don't have time to fix. He tends to acquire malware, rootkits, viruses, etc very frequently, so I'm hoping he will never have an issue with that again.
There are still many computers sold with one large mechanical disk. With all the crapware that comes on these system, it makes sense to lower access times.
Thanks for the information. I'm probably not going to buy anything in the immediate future. Can you please keep us up to date on whether this issue gets resolved?
It does look fairly small, though I bet it still generates a lot of heat. Plus, I just spent $400 upgrading this machine today. Maybe I'll consider it in a few months.
I don't know if the case has enough room for a video card. It's an Antec NSK2400. It also has a Antec Basiq 450 watt power supply, so even if I could fit a decent video card in there, the power supply might not be beefy enough. Cooling might also be problematic.
Are there any "small" video...
My PPD may go up slightly. I replaced the motherboard, CPU, and RAM in my HTPC with an Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz.
This system is just folding with the NaCl client. It seems to complete a WU about every 5 minutes.
Does anyone know if I can do GPU folding with the built-in GPU?
This is what my config looks like on Xubuntu with only GPU folding setup.

It has a large screen, but it's not nearly as large as a Samsung Note. It's screen is excellent. The CPU/RAM is about the best you can get on any current phone right now. To top it off I got it for $100 with a 2 year contract on Verizon.
I got the LG G3 today to replace my Samsung Galaxy S3. I'm pretty impressed. The screen is amazing. The thing bezels make the 5.5" screen seem manageable. It feels much faster than my GS3 as well.
