    Something Random

I did 110 miles on my bike between Thursday and Sunday. I don't drink a lot of beer the nights before riding though, it really makes for an unpleasant ride. Yesterday I did 65 miles, much of it on crushed gravel. It was also around 85F degrees and sunny. The second half of the ride was pretty...

    Browsers speed compared

You may be referring to a Java Applet. This works similarly to how flash works in a browser. Your browser uses a plug-in to run code on your machine's Java Virtual Machine (JVM). A plug-in's performance is not really affected by the browser itself as the plug-in usually spawns another process to...

    Browsers speed compared

Java and JavaScript are two different things. Updating the version of Java you are running won't affect JavaScript in a browser.

    Where is the next CPU?

Maybe Greg is running a domain controller with 10,000 users. Or maybe he is running a JBoss server with a million page views a month. Or maybe he is running a transactional database server will millions of transactions an hour. Or maybe he just wants to waste money for no reason.

That's not so bad, last week I was at work until 2:35am one night. 17+ hour workdays make you stronger.

How to use a wireless router as a bridge?

OT: I just noticed that Netgear has a Coax-ethernet adaper that supports up to 270Mbps. Has anyone ever used this type of adapter before? It looks like an interesting idea to replace my terribly slow 802.11n network.

    Windows 7 nonsense

You can't really remove IE from Windows, it's essentially part of the core. Help relies on it, as well as thousands of other applications.

    Sprint Smartphone

I'm not even sure the insurance is worth it. It's $7 per line and with the Blackberry Curve there is a $100 deductible if I need to get the phone replaced. Does anyone else pay for this?

    Sprint Smartphone

I'm on a 2 line plan. 1500 shared minutes, unlimited texts, and unlimited data for $129.99. Actual bill is quite a bit more. I pay for insurance on both of the lines and then taxes make it come out to ~$167. Tax is $19.10.

    update New server issue thread

Well, every night on the old server I would try to load up the page at about 11pm central time and it would take 30-60 seconds to load. I think they did backups around that time. So, rather than posting anything, I was mainly waiting.

IE 8 for WinXP available on the windows update site.

It really is a huge step in the right direction. From what I've read IE8 is now almost fully CSS 2.1 compliant. They have a long, long way to go to support CSS 3 though.

IE 8 for WinXP available on the windows update site.

It all depends on what you mean by "broke." IE8 is the most standards compliant version of IE yet. However, existing websites that were coded to work in IE6/7 might not display correctly in IE8. All the sites I work on work perfectly in IE8. This is because I code to the standard and then...

IE 8 for WinXP available on the windows update site.

I think a lot of the problem with Firefox is that the UI is single threaded. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future release. Chrome sets the benchmark for this. Too bad it doesn't support add-ons yet. For a browser straight out the box Chrome is really nice.
