My dad is barely able to use a computer and he has little trouble using Firefox.

IE 8 for WinXP available on the windows update site.

I just played with this in Opera to make sure I wasn't spouting crap. To open a new tab, it appears that I either have click a button with my mouse or hit CTRL-T, not the easiest combination to hit.

IE 8 for WinXP available on the windows update site.

Opera also has the worst options when it comes to tab behavior. Why is it that hard to open a new background tab when I enter a new URL in the address bar and hit enter? Granted I need an add-on to do this in Firefox, but at least that add-on exists (Tab Mix Plus).

I wonder if birds can be infected with this strain of swine flu? That would not be good. I also found this snippet interesting:

You can also use standby. I'm not sure how much power is used when a system is on standby, but I don't think it's a ton. The problem I have with standby is a lot of the time my systems won't go to standby even if they are set to in power management.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Those Athlon numbers were made to compare to the P4. After the Core2Duos came out those numbers were useless for comparison purposes. If you read about the architecture of the P4 versus the newer Intel chips you'll understand this better.

    Swine Flu

I would agree with this. However, my employer gives me 3 sick days a year. I'm sure as hell not going to take an unpaid day because I'm sick.

    Swine Flu

Death rate is a percentage of humans that died after being infected. In Mexico the death rate is somewhere around 6%, but it's most likely much much lower than that because of unreported cases. The Avian Flu had around a 50% death rate. I am not talking about birds here, I'm talking about humans.

Human to human. It appears to be much more transmissible than bird flu, but a lot less deadly.

A Question for Those Who Know Something About Forum Softwares

Look for a mod that will change this button. Check here. If a mod doesn't exist, then you will need to write one. It really doesn't sound that hard to mod this. It seems like something that could be done in the template. In which case, I doubt it would be that hard to upgrade if you modified...

    Where's everybody?

You probably had Gastroenteritis. It could have been caused by something other than food, but I would put my money on food poisoning. Your immune system might have already been compromised more than the others that sampled your food, which could be why you got sick and they didn't.

    Vuze as a resource hog?

uTorrent is pretty easy to use. It's the most popular bittorrent client in the world, if it was that hard to use no one would be using it.

    U-verse & Dish Network

Many of these technologies are not owned by a single corporation. Rather they are standards, that anyone can build a device to. My hope is that the cost of deploying a network will go down substantially if you only need to deploy monopoles and repeaters to add service to a neighborhood. This...

    U-verse & Dish Network

There are some interesting wireless technologies coming down the pipe, but who knows how long it will take for a viable solution to come to the market. I live in pretty high density area (30,000/sq mi), so hopefully one of these wireless technologies will be viable to deploy in my area within...

    U-verse & Dish Network

I think a lot of the problem is that an oligopoly is really not much better than a monopoly. There are a couple options to fix the problem: 1. Regulate the industry as if it were a monopoly. 2. Promote more competition through less regulation on use of public lands or less regulation on other...

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

In that case, your output can go all the way up to 1080p, but I'm sure your TV won't support that. If you are going to spend any money on this, I would spend it on a LCD 1080p TV.

It appears to do DD Live, but there aren't any settings under that tab other than Automatic Override. I don't see anything related to DTS. I guess it's not that big of a deal to switch the audio mode, I was just hoping for something automatic.

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

I think you will be sorely disappointed if you hook up that computer to your TV with an s-video cable. S-video is only really good up to 480i for NTSC. So you will basically max out at 640x480 interlaced which is going to be pretty useless for anything. Read this for more info...

I installed the free version of Spybot. Do you normally start that up with Windows or just immunize all the apps and then manually scan once a week? Why is the site always slow?

I think downtime will be necessary to move all the data, but once that is done, the major delay will be waiting for the DNS records to update.
