    Notebook buying advice

Any plan should be fine, you need to ask Verizon to add "National Access MOU" to it. Cable can be had for bugger all off ebay, or more from Verizon. Almost all the newer digital phones have National Access capability. Personally I use it witt a Samsung A530. The PC Cards do cost a fair bit...

    Notebook buying advice

I can't help you with the notebook itself, but re: the Internet connection, do they happen to have a cellphone of some description? For example with Verizon you can get a data cable, and get data using your minutes of use on your plan. Therefore unlimited nights and weekends. Speeds in many...

    I need a new TV

Well tonight Lost is currectly listed on the 8300 guide as a 61 min show, so I hopefully will get to see the end of it unlike last week. Channel change/guide speed is good, it's got a faster processor than the 8000HD.

Recommendations for an external SATA enclosure?

*Sighs* Got the enclosure today. Sure enough, f###### SATA-1 L-shaped cabling on both ends. Sweet Jebus. And I've googled high and low for this particular cable, which is what I need. http://www.comaxtech.com/pic/2213C_big.jpg I can't find anyone that sells it *blubbers*

    I need a new TV

Do the HD TVs have SCART inputs? Perhaps an RGB->SCART cable would do the trick. Tho I realise a lot of SCART inputs don't have the RGB connectors hooked up. It seems like 7 is calling 576p high definition? And 9 is going with 1080i? I don't think it will take much comparison by people watching...

    I need a new TV

I get the following channels via cable: INHD1 and INHD2: These show only HD content, it's produced by a consortium of cable companies I believe. About 100 new hours per month. HBO-HD and SHO-HD, high definition versions of HBO and Showtime. Some older movies seem to be upsampled, but native...

    Switching to VoIP service

Usual install would be to place the TA between the cable modem and the router. So TA would take the bandwidth it needs for the call. I've called ATT support twice so far, first time wait was less than 1 minute, second time about 2 mins.

    I need a new TV

Analog recording seems sub-par, compared to the SA8000. Keep in mind you can set it to upconvert everything to 1080i/720p, or set it to pass-thru whatever the programs' native resolution is. I may just be spoilt with HD clarity tho. If you've ever experienced a Tivo/ReplayTV, it's definitely...

    Switching to VoIP service

Just made my first call using VoIP, sounds just like a landline. If you have a phone socket in your office, you could hook that socket up to the TA (provided you disconnect the copper wires to the house). Use a Y-adapter and you could hook your existing phone to that socket as well. Unless you...

    long term goals

Yeah I was asked this a few months ago. They didn't specifically say 5 years, but what I would like to be doing long-term. I thought about what I was good at, and what I enjoyed, and told the boss. Sure enough a few months later I'm on the way :)

    Switching to VoIP service

There's two options. One, you can just plug say a cordless phone system into the TA, and leave the home wiring alone. Other option is to disconnect the outside copper line from your phone junction box, and then connect one of your phone sockets into the TA. That way, all your phone connectors...

    Switching to VoIP service

So I've decided to give Alltel my local phone monopoly the flick, and switch to ATT CallVantage. Right now I pay around $45 per month to Alltell just for local service with caller ID package. Long distance from Sprint is on top of that. So I will be saving money from the first month. Got the...

Recommendations for an external SATA enclosure?

Well Tea the problem is I have no guarantee that the thing will even work when hooked up to the DVR. So I don't want to spend massive bucks on a Maxtor for example and then have the thing turn into a lemon (not that I couldn't use the drive in one of my machines).

Whilst this thread is resurrected I might as well update it too. Finally moved to the new digs and got digital cable. Easy way to fry your new industrial motherboard, SCSI, etc

My first power supply mistake was when I was assembling my shiny gold Pentium66 (with fuzzymath). Hey JTD, long time no see. Not many of the DV camcorders have an auxiliary analog input, the one's that come to mind are the Digital8 line from Sony, and a few others.

Recommendations for an external SATA enclosure?

Ok, I've done a little Googling and found that there are two external connector specs, the L shaped SATA-1 (which is basically the internal connector-since SATA-1 doesn't spec an external one), and the rectangular SATA-2. I'll check with GD today to see what they use on the cable (tho apparently...

Recommendations for an external SATA enclosure?

OK last question I promise. The granite digital enclosure comes with a data cable, but it looks like a red/orange one (internal?). I'm assuming that is used to hook the drive into the enclosure. So I would need the external cable they also sell. The question is, are the connectors the same no...

Thanks Buck, that's perfect. Thanks for the warning mubs. But unless Merc can show me another brand where I can get a 250GB SATA drive for less than $130.00 after MIR (outpost), I'll have to take my chances against the bag full of Metropolis steel :)

Recommendations for an external SATA enclosure?

I guess my other option would be to get a bare SATA drive, stick it in one of my external FW enclosures with the cover off, and run the cable directly from the drive to the cable box. Do all SATA drives take 4 pin power? *me SATA newbie* Thinking of probably a 250GB WD SATA drive.
