[News] Dual layer DVD+R/W on its way!

Looks like around US$3,000. Perhaps just one of your lungs and a kidney? And only 27GB currently http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/hardware/storage/0,39007126,39013640p,00.htm 9MB/sec is what this first gen can do, I believe the next gen will do 18MB/sec.

    Walgreens 15 TDK 4x DVD+Rs - $32

Memorex 4x DVD+R 25 pack spindles are available from Amazon for $34.99. They were available for $30.00 a few weeks ago. Looks like this item qualifies for a $50 promotional cert when you spend $250 in Electronics. Works fine in a Sony 500A.

    SCSI reliability?

I believe it's more accurate to say that if were running 100 15k.3s (we wish...), you would get a failure in 1-3 of the drives each year.

    w00t!

I'm about 22,000 feet from the exchange and I connect at 26.4kb/sec. To the victor go the spoils of net sloth! The worst part is that I did have broadband back in Aus for about a year, using wireless MMDS for dl and modem for upstream, I used to get up to 6mbit/sec before Austar went titsup and...

[News] Dual layer DVD+R/W on its way!

Apparently it can be done with just a firmware update - tho I doubt Sony would miss the opportunity to screw it's loyal customers over and make us buy brand new drives. And the good media of course. I hope it's affordable, unlike double sided DVD-R was at the start. I was thinking of getting...

    My new toy

Hmm, I'd take this one over the .22. http://www.gunblast.com/Freedom_97-32.htm I had a S&W Mod 16 revolver chambered in .32 H&R Magnum, I used it with .32 S&W Long for Centre Fire match. Fantastic accuracy, out of a 6" barrel, .5" groups at 25m was no probs. I stupidly sold it one day, I still...

    My new toy

I don't think you are going to get tack driving accuracy out of a .22 conversion kit for a 1911. Tho it does remind me of the time when one of our older members (80+) pulled out a 1911 in the Air Pistol hall, we thought he'd lost his marbles until out came a pffft, he had an air conversion kit...

Played with the G5 1.6 and 1.8 yesterday...

It's a common artifact of the RD Field. Either the OS is really advanced and needs the very latest hardware which will be released "any month now".... or the new hardware is supercomputer whizbang and the OS update to bring out the best is "just-around-the-corner". Apparently Panther will...

Tanfoglio make some nice guns. A friend of mine has one in 9mm, with double stack magazines. Not bad for IPSC Standard division. Personally I like a nice .45 for the slow recoil.

"There are only two seasons on Cape York Peninsula the "wet" and the "dry". The wet is by far the most spectacular, from mid November thunderstorms herald the beginning of the monsoonal rain. The parched land is replenished and the once dry rivers and creeks again flow. It is from now until...

    LSI U160

http://www.lsilogic.com/techlib/marketing_docs/storage_stand_prod/habs/valueline/u160pb.pdf Have a look at the U160 .pdf, it specifically states in page 2 that XP and .Net have drivers built-in.

    LSI U160

They all use the LSI 53C1010 chipset, which is all the Windows driver cares about. http://www.lsilogic.com/products/stor_prod/hba/valueline/index.html The LSI site says it supports Windows. Looks like it's a 33MHz card (although it will work in a 3.3V slot).

    SCSI adapter for 15K.3?

Ian: According to that site the DMX controller looks like it runs at 33MHz, which would drop any other 66MHz cards on that bus segment down to 33MHz as well. Perhaps their site is out of date as well? The 1010-66 chip runs at 66MHz, the 1010-33 at 33MHz.

    SCSI adapter for 15K.3?

I believe there is a version of the Tekram U3W that is 3.3V capable. But the earlier revisions are definitely 5V only. The tekram site is updated at the same pace as the new Mac "faster-than-light" machines :) Notice the "hot-product" designation for controllers that are several years old. They...

Sound card recommendation for 2003 Server?

The SB16 ASP was around $400, and the Waveblaster (wave sample MIDI board - had a massive 4MB of hardware samples) was another $400. I believe they later came out with the Waveblaster 2 which was a cheaper version. MIDI was the s###. .WAV for games was a far off thing. This was around the time I...

Sound card recommendation for 2003 Server?

LOL, if I had an ISA slot Tony I would use my trusty SB 16 ASP with Waveblaster daughterboard, set me back about AUS$800 way back when. Worked great with win 3.x. Thanks for the info guys, I'm leaning towards the Hercules.

Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

Last I looked CompUseless had APC BackUPS XS 1500's for $200. Has six battery backup outlets and two surge outlets. It can also take an additional external battery to triple runtime. Works fine for me, lasts about 20 mins with the duallie on it. I got it for $150 when they had an instant savings.

They are different, mostly because they need to supply 24 or 36V to drive the monitor power via the ADC connection. I believe there is a header on the mobo that connects to the graphics card for this. Some people have flashed PC firmware versions into Mac versions I believe. But it's not an easy...
