All-in-one printer thingies - do they work right yet?

Drool schmool :P Actually I wouldn't say no if I was offered one for free. Right now I'm trying to dl all the ATI drivers required to get my AIW 7500 up and running, 24MB for the 8.6 MMC and another 23MB for the 3in1 driver pack is excrutiating on dial up (24kbps yay!). I need it to record the...

All-in-one printer thingies - do they work right yet?

A colour laser simply doesn't replicate all the colour shades that an inkjet can. It just looks like crap to put it simply. I believe supercaff has(had?) a solid wax printer, ther are really more designed for business document output with solid colours (such as bar graphs. pie charts etc). Dye...

All-in-one printer thingies - do they work right yet?

Does she need colour? If not, then a Brother laser all in one would be the way to go. I dunno if they have any flatbed versions tho.

Played with the G5 1.6 and 1.8 yesterday...

Sadly for the price they are asking, blinding speed is required. Of course for those who are enveloped in the RDF (Reality Distortion Field), these machines are "faster than light", "supercomputers" etc ad nauseum. I believe they can be equipped with the 9800 Pro viddy card? Should be sufficient.

Best DVD Burner for less than $200.

Most (all?) of the DVD burners are limited to 2x rip speed with CSS protected discs. Unfortunately the Sonys also rip at 2x on non-CSS discs. However for the latest Sony burner you can dl a software appy that increases the rip speed to something like 6x or 8x I believe. In any case, much quicker...

    [NEWS] New P4 "Extreme Edition"

There's no way it's going to cost 3 grand. Prob less than $1000. The Xeon MP is certified for up to 8 way operation, the pee4 version is for single cpu apps. People will pay the big bucks for large cache and 8 way. If the price is the same for the p4 version then people might as well buy the...

    Folding@Home

Hmm, I should prob put this noisy bastard duallie in the basement and let her run 24/7. But I'd need a KVM cat5 switch that uses DVI, and I don't think they make those, not for under $300 anyway. So I'll prob end up getting a new quiet machine with DVI, and run the duallie via VNC.

advice/comments invited: CD/DVD RW drives in ext. enclosures

I have two of the ADS Pyro enclosures, one is the original FW only version, and the other is the Duo (FW+USB). It seems to me that the Duo is a tad slower than the FW only version (when using Firewire). Haven't tried it on USB2 tho (FW works fine for me). I also have a FW800 enclosure and...

Just watched the second series of 24 on DVD, good entertainment. Can't wait for the third series, definitely a cliffhanger as opposed to end of season 1. And loving the commercial skipping capabilities of ReplayTV, makes watching a game of NFL reasonably interesting, once all the ads and slow...

Certainly wireless has the possibility of ending the telcos absurd prices for the last mile to the customer. Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

I would definitely return it if I had the option. I have a single stuck pixel on my i8200, fortunately the 133dpi makes it difficult to see. It appeared after the 30 day money back guarantee from Dell so I didn't have the option of exchange. My 2000FP is pristine so far (touch wood).

Perhaps another option would be to get a ReplayTV (currently $199 at amazon.com for the 40 hour version, plus a $50 MIR till August 31st), capture from that, then stream via your LAN to your computer, and burn those files to DVD. Apprently speed is about 3MB/sec.
