Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

I haven't noticed any problems with my 2000FP. Of course you could always set power management to turn the monitor off after x number of minutes if you are concerned. With my Dell, I have the brightness at about 20 or 30 out of 100, so I don't think it will be a prob for me.

    [news] - XBIT - Ten DVD-Burners Roundup

Yup lead out takes a long time. It does seem faster on the 4x discs. Lots of players have no problem playing back DVD-R, but have issues with DVD-RW. If it's playing back OK on the -RW in your computer then just make a -R burn, it should work fine in your home player. At least with +RW I find...

Chevy Cavalier 2004 (or 2003) : good car?

I'd be happy if they upgraded the Thruway E-Z pass system so that one could keep driving thru the EZ pass lane without slowing to 5 MPH. Of course given the sheer stupidity of some of the booth workers "hey why look if a car is coming before I step out on the roadway" I guess this won't be...

[news] 939 pin chip won't be compatible with 940 CPU

Indeed: Intel: 3 versions of the Socket370. The P4: I've lost count. The Xeon: even worse. AMD doesn't look too bad. It is a new generation they are introducing after all, not like Intel and their bullcrap "oh we need to change voltage specs blah blah blah, hmm let's move one pin or add...

    [news] - XBIT - Ten DVD-Burners Roundup

I would have a look at DVD Shrink for free before paying for DVD X Copy ( www.dvdshrink.org ) They have the 3.0 Beta out - it's on the where page, at the bottom. It doesn't have burning functionality however, but you could use whatever software comes with the Pioneer drive for that.

Wierd thing. I ran AVG 6.0 on the laptop the other day and it detected OPEN_ME.EXE in two directories. Now I have it scan all emails and I Outlook 2K won't let me open executable attachements anyway. I'm wondering if I got it via the blaster backdoor before I patched (even though I never had the...

What aspects ratios are true, w/o distortion?

I dunno what DVD software you are using but you should be able to find an option to "preserve aspect ratio". This will preserve the proper ratio as you click and resize the DVD window to your liking (i.e. it won't squash or elongate the people on screen :) )

    Bowling for Columbine

The problem is that since the "buy back" of '96, the rate of home invasions has increased. Now wasn't the point of the "buy-back" to make Australia a "safer place"? Surely it wasn't because Little Johnnie doesn't like them and apparently his wife is calling the shots regarding his gun policy...

    How do people meet people?

As flagreen said, I think common interests are the key. Most of my good friends I met at the pistol club I'm a member of. See them a couple of times a week, and then we usually go interstate to State/National champs etc. Known them for about 6 years now. Also I have friends from high skool/Uni...

    Bowling for Columbine

I'm pretty sure that it wasn't cumpulsary to take the gun, you could choose to get normal interest on the CD instead. Bowling for Columbine

I won't bother wasting a Netflix rental slot on such pure fabrications. I've seen the part where he makes it look like you get handed a gun when you open a bank account, too bad he missed out the fact that is was a multi thousand dollar CD and you were getting advanced interest. Oh yeah and the...

Buying a LCD in the next day and need advice

AFAIK there is no limitation on shades of colours via DVI. I believe most(all?) the panels use 7 bits per colour channel, and therefore cannot produce the gamut of a CRT monitor.

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

I guess the problem is that there are no single CPU mobos with decent PCI. And in a year you could get a second Xeon at bargain prices, slip it in and away you go.

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

With a massive recoil like that, a light frame, and such a short sight radius, it wouldn't be of much use unless you were attacked in a lift. Still an awful big hole for a bad guy to look down. I would seriously shoot one before buying. It's not a comfortable experience. I've shot 454s out of a...

MS to sell XP+Office for $36....in Thailand

I imagine that one of the reasons that prescription prices are so astronomical in the US is that the insurance companies will pay for those high prices (minus the co-pay). How else can Zyrtec be sold for about US$10 in Australia and US$80 in the US? Keep in mind that in Australia, you can't...

Splash: What are you using for new systems at work?

Supermicro don't make AMD mobos, so you would be stuck with Intel if you went that route. If you want 64bit PCI, then you would have to get an SMP board, and that means Intel Xeons or AMD Athlon(X)MPs/Opterons. What's your budget?
  40. Pradeep

Intel Pro/1000 MT - Server vs Desktop?

Indeed, it sounds like a PCI related problem. I presume your dual athlon is a AMD 760MPX. I also speculate that this is the source of the bottleneck. It can have similar PCI issues as those that have plagued Via chipsets. What other PCI devices do you have running in the systems? Have you...

[NEWS] - Raptors in RAID articles

I don't think that any PCI card would increase the bus speed. But perhaps it could lessen the impact. That's why I won't buy any mobo with less than 64 bit PCI. It's insane to cripple a healthy modern processor with 133MBps 32/33 PCI. Yeah I know the on board crap can have it's own channels to...

    CD/DVD Changers For PCs

Another problem with encoding them all with DivX at CD size is that you are going to lose the DD/DTS soundtracks. And as you improve the TV/audio system, the quality loss could be too much to bear. Also the time it's going to take to compress 600 DVDs may not be worth the money you could earn...

    CD/DVD Changers For PCs

600 DVD's assuming 8GB per disc = 4800 GB. That's a fair bit of storage. Adding in the LDs and the CD's, perhaps 6TB? I would suggest 300 DVD changers like Merc has. Couple of those at ~$400 is going to be much cheaper. Is there a limit to the number that can be daisy-changed?
