Actually I use a pair of TDL Studio 1m's, they have a transmission line bass setup, works well. Unfortunately they are also pretty inefficient, causing me to run out of volume when paired with the Counterpoint hybrid power amp. Perhaps some Klipsch corner horns for the next upgrade. Actually a...

Sony announce the PSX, with 120GB HDD and DVD+-R(W) drive

"Sony will release a new hardware platform dubbed the "PSX." The PSX will feature both DVD and HDD recording functions; the former supporting both DVD+/-R and DVD-R and the latter offering a HDD capacity of 120 GB. The unit will feature an installed TV/BS tuner and an Internet adapter, and will...

I would specifically never buy a car/truck that used Bose for stereo. Having read of the horror stories of people trying to upgrade the speakers in them (all use 1 or 2 ohm I believe). So requiring adaptors, which can't be too good for sound quality. And I have to say again, there is no high...

Didn't SR.com review a 50 pin drive recently that was for legacy 50 pin devices such as this? Perhaps that would work?

That's not what he means. Supermicro has high prices but it is a quality product. You get what you pay for. PCChips is on the other end of the spectrum, crap product at low prices. Fair enough. With Bose you pay out the arse and get crap.

Prof my friend. There is no doubt. Bose is shite. Witness Gary's experience with the 901. Multiple extremely cheap drivers cannot compare to a properly constructed cabinet and some quality drivers (no paper surrounds please!) They spend their money on marketing and TV/magazine ads etc. Not on...

    New NForce Drivers

Sort of OT, I finally got the 200GB JB from Dell (shipped direct fron NJ). Slipped in the Promiseless controller (after finding a precious 4-pin power connector -mental note that 7 connectors are definitely not enough). Wierd thing is that cpu util according to Task Mangler is rather high, in...

    Matrix reloaded?

Saw it on Friday. Excellent. Lots of action. Much more of a mind bender than the first I thought. Though I don't really know why it got an R-rating, perhaps the pathetic sex scene? Can't wait for T3 next month!

    LiteOn DVD-ROM communism

F####ing Jebus. I was just trying to rip a rather scratched DVD, and the Sony 500A still insists on maintaining a steadfast 2x speed. The disk isn't bloody protected with CSS! Arrrghh. I would use the LiteOn 16x but the POS dies in the arse with this particular DVD.

Hmm just received my Action Pack. I got all excited thinking it was Buffy Season 6 form the UK. Merc, I'll swap you the 15 CDs from my Office 2003 Beta (which you undoubtedly have via MSDN), for the mobo. Deal? Now to waste the day installing 2003 Server EE.

    F---! California passes Net Tax

I agree with SteveC. It seems to me that this only affects California residents. If they purchase from an Internet company that also has a physical presence in CA, then they are charged sales tax. I believe several states already have such laws. Dell Home already charge sales tax to customers...

[NEWS] Toshiba To Show Off Blue-Laser Drive

Bepto? ;) The Sony Blu-Ray recordable with 23GB of capacity is looking like a contender as well. They are also implementing the same in their HD Camcorder range etc. Tho it does use a cartridge, although for double sided media I would find that a bonus.

    Nero 5.5.x.y and DVD Video

I wouldn't call myself anti-Nero. I used to recommend it religiously to all my friends. However in the DVD era it has been found lacking by me. X-Box does need a playback kit, it includes a doovy you plug into one of the controller ports (apparently contains the DVD software and an IR...

    Nero 5.5.x.y and DVD Video

I don't use Nero anymore. Can't get it to make DVDs that playback on the X-Box. Other players seem to do OK. Apparently it's something to do with the UDF filesystem or something. Record Now DX works fine for my purposes.

    LiteOn DVD-ROM communism

Merc: I have a 166S and it rips fine at full speed, no 2x shenanigans. But mine was probably manufactured in January or so. Looks like it is a recent thing. www.cdrlabs.com has some links in the forums to firmware revisions, dimitri is the guy to ask.

    They've lost me this time

Disgraceful. IIRC there was also a Palestinian cameraman shot dead a few weeks ago. It looks like a new age of censorship in Israel. They don't like the stories that are being broadcast (houses being bulldozed etc), they kill the reporters. Perhaps now that the Iraq effort is pretty much over...

Don't forget jtr, you can legally kill anyone who breaks into your house/apartment when you are already there, none of that reasonable force rubbish required. Some of the "stars" on the disk probably keep infecting it with some disease :) Have a look at the new WD external 250GB drive. It even lights up with some kind of pink/purple light. For $450 it would want to. http://store.westerndigital.com/product.asp?sku=2334531[/img]

If AMD don't take up PCI-Express then things are going to get messy on the graphics card front. Two different models of all cards, one AGP, one PCI-Express. I hope AMD have enough market share to do that. Of course 2004 is a long way away in computer time :)

    Sony DRU-500AX

Are you looking for a second burner? To me $50 on a DVD burner is neither here nor there, you are going to end up spending far more than the initial price on media in any case. Even if the Sony didn't have the 2x CSS ripping limitation, the best it could do is close to 8x DVD reading. A LiteOn...

Looks like the SATA-2 will enable extra features. Hopefully SATA-2 will remain in action for a fair while, there has been so many iterations of ATA the mind wobbles. Netgear Ethernet starter kit $19.99:Overstock.com

Not a bad deal, if only for the two FA310s (Tulip clones I believe). Far better than those POS FA311s. Downsides: 10BaseT hub, Tulip prob unsupported in Server 2003, 310 NIC is 5V only (I believe).
