    Oulook - the good, the bad, the ugly...?

    Anyone running a 2GB .pst file without backups should be thrown out of the nearest window. Backing up a single .pst file is so easy. *scurries off to backup overdue .pst file*

    Oulook - the good, the bad, the ugly...?

    Outlook 2000 is vulnerable to lots of viruses until it is patched. It's not a simple thing, first you need to apply Office2k SP1 and then SR-1a. Then you can dl a patch for Outlook2K that fixes it all up. Outlook 2002 is better in this regard as it is not vulnerable in the first place. Use NAV...

    Oulook - the good, the bad, the ugly...?

    Oh yes, and OE 6 is always snappier than Outlook, I guess due to not having to support all the Exchange overhead.

    Oulook - the good, the bad, the ugly...?

    Tho I run OfficeXP, I only use Outlook 2000. I find Outlook 2002 to be slower, nearly sluggish compared to 2k. What I do like about Outlook is the all in one file format (.pst), makes a nice change from the horror of trying transfer OE emails from place to place. And the synchronisation with my...

    9/11 my thoughts

    Globalisation is OK, but it only works well if everyone opens their markets too, otherwise we are not playing on a level playing field. So the end result is that Aussie markets are wide open, yet the US and much of Europe continues to provide massive subsidies to their primary producers. Not to...

    Setting up NT & W98 multi-boot

    Unconnect the C: drive. Install 98 on the 10GB. Then reconnect the C: drive and add an entry into boot.ini for the 98 install. Should work. Backup beforehand of course.

    Noise while playing a DVD Video

    True, but surely it is interpolating a lot of that information? I mean it must be doing something to "fill in the gaps". HD-DVD can't come soon enough. Not to mention affordable LCD panels running at 1920*1200 :)

    AMD's Hammer delayed for another Quarter

    With the recent release of the 2.2GHz AthlonXP, and faster versions using the 166MHz FSB around the corner, I'm ok with them delaying the Clawhammer till it's 100% ready to go. Plus this will give mobo manufacturers etc time to work out the bugs.

    A more silent computer

    My new Dell Inspiron 8200

    No dead/stuck pixels? Sounds good. I had one red stuck pixel appear after a couple of days, the beauty of 133dpi is that it looks like a tiny speck of dust, can't be seen unless you look for it. Track beats stick anyday :) Actually I took the cover off my pointy stick because it was rubbing on...

    Very interesting 911 TV ratings figures

    Well at least you have the option of watching Ten Tony. In Tassie, there are only 4 free to air channels. Southern Cross (mostly 7 with a smidge of Ten - V8 racing etc), and WIN (channel 9). Plus SBS and ABC of course. Apparently they are talking about having Ten broadcast down here in the...

    Need advise on printer

    Yes it's the recommended max number of pages printed per month. Gives you an idea of it's suitability for heavy duty use. For example if you tried to print 60,000 pages in a month on your 6L, it would probably die in agony.

    New Version of Trillian is Available

    The beauty of Trillian is that if your chat partner also has it, you can chat via an encrypted channel. Whether the ICQ protocol is safe per se, I'm not sure. If you have very sensitive info, I wouldn't store it on the same computer/network as one on which you have chat software.

    Internet Eexplorer 6 Service Pack ---> 1 <--- Soon

    Sony 19" Display

    A series is bargain crap from Sony. Crappier than the E-series which I unfortunately own. Cheaply made in Mexico, to a price. Avoid. If you want a Sony, try the Dell Peripherals site when they have 20% off, I believe they have a rebadged G520 for around $500-$600, they call it the P1130 or...

    The coming end of Moore's law due to power dissipation

    I believe Moore's Law relates to transistor density, and not performance per se. I have a couple of 172 W TEC's from T.E. Dist. I never got around to using them, mostly because I couldn't find an affordable PSU that could deliver the voltage/amperage. They were to go in side by side on a slot...

    Windows X·P Service Pack ---> 1 <--- Available

    The keychanger is not illegal. You can change a setting in the Registry yourself, to enable youu to get to the Activate WinXP screen. The keychanger merely automates this change for you. Now what may be illegal is the distibution of those non-blacklisted keys.

    TYAN Tiger MPX S2466-4M, problem with BIOS rev. 4.03?

    There is a bug in the BIOS (at least with TigerMP) where the temp readings in the BIOS are very high. If you hit the left or right arrow key, the temps will update and tumble from 80's down to a more reasonable 30-40, which is the actual temp. MBM therefore doesn't work with the TigerMP, I use...

    Looks like you will be doing purely 2D work, in which case the GF2 GO is adequate.
