I must differ with you, I love the smooth sound of tubes. Distortion perhaps, but I like the experience.

    Quiet PCL laser printer recommendations

From something I remember reading in The Inquirer or similar, the page feed problem in the 6P is due to the pad wearing away or some crap like that, and HP were providing free replacements? Or maybe that was the HP 1100 or somesuch.

    Quiet PCL laser printer recommendations

I second the Kyocera FS-1010. Fantastic value for money, and very quiet when idle (goes into a sleep mode after a while).

Best opening scene for an action movie?

Definitely watch it. They show the explosion at the start, then continue the film from before it all happened, to show it again when it "catches up".

    Imaging a dynamic disc

I don't know the answer but it would seem to be a security gap if you could just paste over a security policy like that. It's prob linked to the SID somehow. Tho if the bad guys have physical access to your computer then I guess no security policy is going to help then.

    Amtrak shut down imminent

Only thing I would have to disagree with is that nuclear energy is "zero-emmision". There is still the nuclear waste to dispose of afterwards, with the associated NIMBY problems, unlike the other sources you mentioned (I won't include flooding a velley for a dam as an emission :) )

    RAID performance

RAID 10 will give you better write speeds, and better reliability (i.e you could lose more than one drive (one drive from each mirror) and the array would still be OK.) But you will have less capacity for a given number of drives, and adding additional capacity is very costly as well.

    Sold on Dual CPUs?

So the ringing in the ears isn't normal? I wouldn't recommend unbuffered memory in the TigerMP tho I guess you could see if it worked out OK before ordering registered modules.

    Do I need help?

Not just in Ballarat Tony, there is no listing in Tasmania's directories either. Bastards! My phone line went dead like that once too, I was on the phone when there the power went out, when it came back on nothing doing, had to ring Primus who spoke to a Telstra tech, who said they would fix it...

Liam, I'm using two Volcano 6Cu+ (the 7000rpm version of the 6Cu) and they fit just fine in my TigerMP. The Alphas won't.

Anyone here has a G4-based computer?

RC5 is one of the few applications in which the G4 is fastest compared to the opposition. Of course for the price of a dual 1GHz G4 system you could buy a couple of dual Athlon systems, so you end up about even in the end.
